We've been talking about parental involvement in children's growth and upbringing. Many parents tend to offer plenty of assistance to their kids in daily routines as well as academic studies. Some people hold the view that this kind of support brings plenty of benefits to children, whereas others claim that excessive parental help will give rise to negative influences. Do you think excessive help from parents brings more advantages or more disadvantages to children? Why?

I believe abundant help from parents is beneficial to children’s growth. Proper guidance and practical assistance can help kids avoid unnecessary mistakes and solve various difficulties efficiently. It also lets children feel warm family care and grow up in a safe and comforting living environment.

In my opinion, parents offering too much help will produce more bad effects on children. If parents arrange everything for their kids, children will lack chances to exercise their independent abilities. They may become overly reliant on others and fail to develop the sense of responsibility needed for future life.

You have signed up for a study run by a university research group that is investigating public parks and recreation. You will have a short video interview with one of the researchers. The researcher will ask you some questions.

1. First, can you tell me about a memorable trip that you or one of your friends took to a park or recreational area. What made it special?

2. Do you think parks and recreational spaces are more important for adults or for children? Why?

3. Interesting. Some people believe that parks play a crucial role in promoting community health and well-being by providing outdoor spaces where people can relax, exercise, or play, therefore local governments should spend more money on them. What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree or disagree, and why?

4. Finally, in many large cities, there is a tension between building more public parks for residents to relax and play in and using that space to build more housing. Do you think the need for more housing is more or less important than the need for parks and recreational spaces? Why?
