I will never forget the day that I finally understood the meaning of "practice makes perfect" from my piano learning.
My family was going to hold a family party at the weekend. My aunt, a famous piano teacher, would come to the party. My mother asked me to play a piano piece at the party. I agreed happily, because I thought I had played the piece many times and could play it well.
But that afternoon, when I played the piece in front of my piano teacher, she shook her head. "Your playing is skillful, but it has no feeling. You don't understand the story behind the piece at all," she said seriously. I felt so upset that I wanted to give up playing at the party.
However, my teacher didn't let me give up. She told me the story of the composer, and how he wrote the piece when he missed his hometown. She asked me to listen to the piece again and again, and to draw the picture that came to my mind when I listened. During those days, piano playing, which had been my favorite, became my only focus. I practiced for hours every day, not just playing the notes, but feeling the emotion in the music.
At the same time, my teacher advised me to take part in the city's teenage piano competition. I sent my video to the competition without too much hope. One night, when I was practicing the piece, the phone rang. It was my teacher. "Lily, you won the first prize in the competition!" she said excitedly.
"Really?" was all I could reply.
"Yes," my teacher said. "The judges said your playing is full of emotion. And that's not all. You're also invited to play at the city's concert hall next month." I couldn't believe what I heard. Only a few players could get this chance every year.
That night I sat in front of the piano for a long time. I finally understood that piano playing was not just about skills, but about heart. It had taken me a while, but I realized that I had my own way to shine.

Have you ever stayed up late to finish your homework, and then found it hard to focus in class the next day? Many teenagers don't realize that sleep is as important as study for their school performance. Yet new research has found that good sleep can greatly improve teenagers' learning ability and memory.
A team of scientists from Peking University found that teenagers aged 13 to 15 need 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night. But most Chinese teenagers sleep less than 7 hours a day on school nights. The study found that students who sleep well can remember 30% more knowledge than those who don't.
The study helps us to partly explain why some students can learn better with less study time. And more importantly, it helps us to find out the right way to improve study efficiency. For example, if you study hard but sleep less than 6 hours a night, your learning efficiency may drop by more than 40%.
We know that sleep helps our brain to organize and store the information we learn during the day, said lead researcher Professor Li. When we sleep, our brain is not resting. It is working hard to turn short-term memory into long-term memory.
For the study, the scientists chose 200 junior high school students from different parts of China. The students were divided into two groups. One group slept 9 hours every night, while the other slept less than 7 hours. The team then tested their memory and learning ability every week for two months.
They found that the students who slept 9 hours had much better grades in all subjects than the other group. Professor Li also said that the recent study was the first to show a clear link between sleep and learning efficiency among Chinese teenagers. "This is an important new research finding that opens the door to a new way to improve teenagers' study performance," he said.

( ) 50. Where is the text probably taken from?

Tom and Becky walked into the cave, holding their candles high. They saw wonderful rocks that looked like frozen waterfalls. They walked deeper and deeper into the cave, forgetting the way back. No one else came to this part of the cave, because everyone thought it was a endless maze (迷宫).
When they finally realized they were lost, their candles were almost burned out. Becky cried. "Tom, I'm so scared. We should never have come here. No one will find us!" Tom held her hand and said, "Don't worry, Becky. I will get us out of here. I'll find the way."
Tom blew out Becky's candle to save the wax. He used his last candle to look for the way out. He walked from one tunnel to another, but every tunnel led to a dead end. Then, when he turned a corner, he saw a man holding a candle in the distance. Tom shouted with joy, but the man ran away quickly. It was Injun Joe, the murderer. Tom was too scared to move. He knew Injun Joe would kill him if he found Tom.
But Tom didn't tell Becky about Injun Joe. He didn't want her to be more scared. He kept looking for the way out. Three days passed. They had no food or water. Becky was too weak to walk. Tom gave her his last piece of cake, and told her he would find a way out.
He took the candle and went into a small tunnel. He crawled (爬) for a long time. Then, he saw a small light at the end of the tunnel. It was sunlight! He had found the exit! 六、读写综合
(一)阅读并回答问题(共5 小题,每小题2 分,满分10 分)
An AI guide dog walks around the school library to help students find books. The AI guide dog has a smart screen. It can show the way to the book you want to find. It is just one example of the wide use of AI in school libraries.
The AI guide dog can help with the management of 50,000 books in the library. It is a part of the smart library system. The system connects all the books in the library to the school's online platform. Students can check the book information on the platform at any time.
There are not enough librarians in the school library. So it is difficult to help every student find books quickly. But now AI has begun to change this situation. In Yancheng No.2 Middle School, a smart borrowing machine began to work in the library last month. Within 10 seconds, it can finish the book borrowing and returning work.
The old way of borrowing books takes a lot of time. Smart machines provide a fast way, thanks to their high efficiency. Students can also use the library's AI chatbot to ask questions about books. The chatbot can answer 98% of the students' questions correctly.
In a word, AI has been used in many parts of school libraries. It can help librarians do a lot of work and make it easier for students to read. It will certainly have more uses in the future. And we expect that AI will make reading more enjoyable for everyone.
