Passage 1
Mia was shy, often found lost in the pages of her favorite books rather than engaging with (融入)the world around her.Her friends and family often encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone, but Mia was hesitant, fearing rejection and the unknown.
One day,Mia came across an announcement for a local writing workshop, hosted by a famous author. The workshop promised to help aspiring(有抱负的)writers find their voice and share their stories with the world.Despite her fears,Mia felt a sudden interest. She had always loved writing but never dared to show her work to anyone.
As the day of the workshop was coming,Mia's anxiety grew. She worried about what others would think of her writing and if she would be able to keep up with the more experienced people. To calm herself,Mia spent several nights reading over her favorite stories, looking for inspiration(灵感)and comfort in the familiar words.
On the morning of the workshop,Mia woke up early, dressed carefully, and headed to the place where it was held with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. As she entered the room, she noticed a diversity of people, all sharing a common love for writing. The atmosphere(氛围) was warm and welcoming, which helped calm Mia slightly.
The workshop began with a series of exercises designed to unlock creativity and build confidence.Mia found herself gradually opening up,sharing bits and pieces of her writing and receiving helpful advice from other people and the instructor. She was surprised to discover that her words touched others, leading to conversations and connections she never thought possible.
One particularly memorable exercise was to write a short story in just thirty minutes.Mia, in a rush, wrote about a young girl who beat fears to follow her dreams. As she read her story aloud,Mia couldn't help but feel a sense of connection to the character, realizing that her own journey was not so different.

One morning,Jason's mom was driving him to school beneath an especially spectacular Texas sunrise. She heard his little voice from the car seat behind her say,“Look,Mommy!Look at the beautiful green sunshine!”She turned to look at it.The rising sun was so beautiful, flooding the earth with warm and red light. However,Jason's mom was about to cry.“Oh dear,my poor boy,”she thought.
Without delay, the parents rushed Jason to the hospitalfor a check-up,which turned out to be color blindness.
On that fateful day,Jason's parents were shocked to learn that their son was color blind—a condition that affects a person's ability to see colors in the same way as others. There is no cure, but special glasses can help individuals like Jason distinguish between different colors. Unfortunately, these glasses are often too expensive for most families to afford.
The parents were sad,but Jason remained calm and even comforted his parents. He saw his condition as something special and decided to keep it a secret. However, his silence caused him tofeel left out when others talked about colors.
One day, during a class discussion, the teacher,Christina Hayes, asked the students to share a secret about themselves.Working up his courage,Jason revealed his condition to his classmates, explaining that he saw gray instead of colors like purple, green, and blue. When the teacher asked if there was anything that could help him,Jason mentioned the special glasses, but noted that they were too expensive for his family.

One day,I had just finished taking my dogs for their morning walk when I noticed something. There was a young maple tree growing in my hallway. It was growing out of a tiny pile of earth on the porch(门廊).Its bottom hadn't even turned to wood yet,but it had three lovely red leaves growing out of it.
I smiled at this strong little tree getting so much growth and life out of so little soil.I knew, however, that it couldn't grow much larger where it was.I bent(弯腰)down and gently took it out of the earth.I took it inside to show my daughter and have her take a picture of it.Then I walked with it out to the edge of the woods around the grassland behind my house.
Walking into the forest,I had a wonderful feeling.Nature can teach us so much about life. There are so many wonders, growth, and beauty in it.You can't be out in it for long without being filled with wonder and respect.
Ialso took a moment to look atall the life aroundme. There were trees, bushes, weeds, flowers, butterflies, bees, spiders, and birds, allso full of life. And I felt so happy that my behavior, however small, was helping do good to nature.

On a cold December morning in 2020,I boarded a bus with my four bags which were large.Luckily, there were two empty seats left.About one hour later,a well-dressed young guy got on and took the seat next to mine.I was cautious.I would often come across guys who were eager to talk to a girl travelling on her own.So I was not surprised when he spoke up.
“Where are you going?”he asked.
“Rampur Bushehr,”I replied briefly and put on my earphones to enjoy some music or to avoid talking with him.He did not bother me after that as if he had known my idea.
It started to rain and cold water was dropping through the roof right on to my lap.Seeing that, the guy emptied a plastic shopping bag full of clothes, which he pushed into his travel bag. He then handed me the plastic bag.I accepted it with a sheepish (困窘的)“thanks”beforespreading it on my lap.
Minutes later, the bus broke down! The conductor announced we would have to move to another bus that would reach us shortly, and that there would be no more buses after that, since there had been heavy snowfalls. All the passengers of the bus got off and stood on the side of the road, ready to rush into the next bus.The conductor unwillingly helped me get off the bus with my luggage and I too waited with other passengers.
