Passage 1
It's hard to believe that before 1985, people in Britain didn't use mobile(1) phones . That was the year when the first mobile(1) phone company began operation in the UK , although in other parts of Europe mobiles(1) had been used for several years . Early mobiles(1) were much larger than they are today . Some of them weighed about 5 kg and the owners had to pay several thousand pounds for them . By the beginning of the 1990s , companies in the UK had updated their mobile(1) phones so they were more like the mobiles(1) used all over Europe . Those phones weighed about 500g , and the batteries lasted longer , whereas before they had lasted for only one hour's talk-time . Nowadays , some of our mobiles(1)weigh as little as 50g and have a talk-time of up to five hours and a battery life of up to 10 days . About 80% of UK adults now own a mobile(1) phone , and there are now almost 50 million mobile(1) phone users in the UK. Nobody had ever expected mobile(1) phones to become so popular . One huge surprise was the increase in the use of text messages . Twenty years ago , people didn't hear of " texting ". Now , over one billion text messages are sent every month in the UK. People are also using their mobile(1) phones as music centers , as personal organizers and to surf the Internet . Mobile phones are developing all the time and people are predicting that soon nobody will want to leave his house without one in his pocket . Mobile phones will no longer be just useful , but necessary for people in the UK. 1.What is the main idea of the passage ? A. I'm often told how I have a dream job , that I work(3) for a great company , getting to deal with the leaders in social media(4) every day , and especially that I get to work(3) from my home . Usually the people(5) who tell me that working(3) from home is(6) wonderful have never worked(3) from home . They spend most(7) of their career working(8) from an office and hate it . In fact , I love being able to work(3) from home and make my own hours . I truly appreciate being able to drop what I'm doing to attend kids or go shopping(9) , but there's a side to it we don't often talk about , the hard side . No one wants to believe people(5) like me , working(3) from home , have anything to complain about . Really , I'm not going to complain , but I do want to share a few things about telecommuting that few home -based people(5) want to tell you , because working(8) from home doesn't look so wonderful . One of the reasons I love my job is(6) the flexibility . I know that I can volunteer for school projects , meet friends for lunch and work(3) out for an hour as long as I get my work(3) done . But did you know telecommuters have to make up the time if they wish to pepper their days with fun distractions ? So while my husband and kids are watching(10) a movie , I'm working(3) until midnight . Besides , when you work(3) from home , you're held(11) to your phone and Skype in case someone wants to talk to you during business hours .
根据第一段第一句: lt's hard to believe that before 1985, people in Britain didn't use mobile phones.(很难相信,在1985年之前,英国人还没有使用手机。) Early mobiles were much larger than they are today.(早期的手机比现在的大得多。) Nobody had ever expected mobile phones to become so popular. Mobile phones are developing all the time...(手机一直在发展。)
That was the year(1985)when the first mobile phone company began operation in the UK, although in other parts of Europe mobiles had been used for several years.(就是在(1985年)那一年在英国的第一家手机公司开始运营,虽然在欧洲其他国家的手机已经使用了好几年。)
C.在1990年,D. 根据文章第一段第一句及第二句的前半句: lt's hard to believe that before 1985, people in Britain didn't use mobile phones. That was the year when the first mobile phone company began operation in the UK...(很难相信,在1985年之前,英国人还没有使用手机。
的时候;而) ; c.just(只是,刚刚)D.still(仍旧)。Those phones weighed about 500g, and the batteries lasted longer, whereas before they had lasted for only one hour's talk-time.(那些手机大约重500克,电池也持续更久。
Mobile phones are developing all the time and people are predicting that soon nobody will want to leave his house without one in his pocket. Mobile phones will no longer be just useful, but necessary for people in the UK.
But did you know telecommuters have to make up the time if they wish to fill their days with fun items? ....... So it's not so easy to be flexible!
Sowhile my husband and kids are watching a movie, I'm working until midnight. Besides, when youwork from home, you're held to your phone and Skype (网络电话) in case someone wants to talk toyou during business hours. So it's not so easy to be flexible!
I know that I can volunteer for school projects, meet friends for lunch and work out for an hour as long as I get my work done.
Passage 1
Passage 2
