Among the flock of 2 pigeons that began stopping for those free snacks, Duncan noticed there was one that was a little 3 . (Para. 2)
第一个that引导定语从句,修饰先行词“the flock of 2 pigeons”;“noticed”后为省略了that的宾语从句;第二个that引导的也是定语从句,修饰先行词“one”。
2. B 根据空后的“pigeons that began stopping for those free snacks”可知,这些鸽子有免费的食物吃,因此它们应该是快乐的。故选B。
3. D 根据空后的“This pigeon wasn’t able to walk 4 , and seemed to be in pain.”
4. C 根据空后的“and seemed to be in pain”和下一句中的“he saw a piece of string around the pigeon’s little feet”可知,这只鸽子不能正常走路。
5. B 根据空后的“he saw a piece of string around the pigeon’s little feet”可知,当Duncan靠近去观察时,他看见这只鸽子的脚上缠着一根绳子。
6. A 根据上文的“This pigeon wasn’t able to walk 4 , and seemed to be in pain.”和文章最后一句中的“the pigeon was freed from the string that had kept him under control”可知,这只鸽子不能正常走路,它的活动受到这根绳子的限制。 故选A。
再根据空后的“the pigeon was unwilling to let Duncan approach”可知,这只鸽子还能飞。故选B。
8. D 根据下一句中的“Duncan was there to let him know that his 10 was good”可知,Duncan并没有放弃救助这只鸽子。pull up意为“停车,停止”;stay up意为“熬夜”;show up意为“出现,露面”;give up意为“放弃”。故选D。
故选A。
10. D 根据空后的“ready with food and a pair of scissors to cut the string”可知,Duncan准备好了食物和为鸽子剪绳子的剪刀,他想让这只鸽子知道他的意图是好的。
11. D 根据空后的“Over the course of the next four weeks, I tried to come up with various ideas...And, in the end, I gained his trust.”
故选A。
13. A 根据上文的“Each day, when the bird in trouble...ready with food”可知,Duncan每天喂这只鸽子以减轻它的防备心。故选A。
14. B 根据下一句中的“in the end, I gained his trust”可知,最终Duncan获得了这只鸽子的信任,故此处指这只鸽子知道Duncan对它不会构成威胁。
regardless of意为“不管,不顾”;instead of意为“代替”;but for意为“要不是”。
