Please reflect on the following opinion and write an essay of about 400 words elaborating your view with a well-defined title.

Mega-sporting events like the Olympic Games have long been a heated topic worldwide. Some proponents argue that hosting such events exerts a positive impact on the host cities—it can boost local economic growth and upgrade urban infrastructure. On the contrary, opponents hold that the huge financial investment in mega-sporting events often brings heavy fiscal burdens, and many host cities even end up with huge losses after the events. For example, Tokyo Olympic Games suffered a loss of 13 billion US dollars due to various factors such as pandemic-induced restrictions and skyrocketing operational costs. In contrast, the Paris Olympic Games adopted a more cost-effective strategy, with 90% of its venues being temporary facilities or existing venues, effectively controlling the construction budget. For the sake of cost recovery, some host cities have explored innovative ways after the events—for example, part of the Olympic venues of a previous Games have been transformed into popular scenic spots, attracting numerous tourists and creating sustained economic benefits. However, balancing the two sides is never easy for host cities.

How can host cities strategically plan mega-sporting events to maximize the benefits of infrastructure while minimizing the financial risks?

How can host cities strategically plan mega-sporting events to maximize the benefits of infrastructure while minimizing the financial risks?

用英文表达,就是这类赛事可以成为城市更新的催化剂,也就是act as a catalyst for urban renewal,并且加速公共交通和便民设施的升级,accelerate upgrades to public transport and civic amenities。

Are the Olympic Games Good or Bad。 Balancing Infrastructure Gains and Fiscal Risks in Mega-Sporting Events,或者 Planning Mega-Sporting Events for Long-Term Urban Value,既稳妥又直接扣住题干的设问。 Beyond the Closing Ceremony: A Sustainable Blueprint for Host Cities。 Smart Planning Turns Sporting Venues from Fiscal Burdens into Public Assets。

Mega-sporting events like the Olympic Games always attract public attention. Supporters believe that hosting these events can improve local infrastructure and help the economy grow, while critics worry that they cost too much money and leave cities with heavy debts. To solve this problem, host cities need to plan carefully. In my view, cities can reduce financial risks and get more benefits by controlling building costs before the games and reusing venues after the games.

这段话意思完整,但是像always attract public attention 属于没有实际信息的空背景,cost too much money 和 plan carefully 也过于笼统。

Hosting mega-sporting events such as the Olympic Games presents cities with a sharp dilemma.Proponents see these events as a catalyst for urban renewal and economic growth, whereas critics warn that lavish construction often leaves governments with severe fiscal deficits and underused venues. Bridging this divide requires a shift in how cities plan from the outset. Host cities can minimize financial risks while maximizing infrastructure benefits only when they restrain new construction before the event and integrate every facility into long-term municipal needs afterward.

This shows Paris is very wise,而是要用 The value of this restraint lies in...

The first step in controlling financial risk is to prioritize existing and temporary structures over costly new builds.Fiscal crises often arise when cities construct specialized permanent stadiums for competitions that last only a few weeks, leaving taxpayers to fund decades of maintenance after the crowds depart. By adapting current arenas or assembling modular facilities, organizers can meet tournament standards without taking on unsustainable debt. The contrast between recent Olympic Games illustrates this principle clearly. While Tokyo suffered a 13 billion dollar loss partly due to runaway construction and operational expenses, Paris kept its budget in check by relying on existing or temporary structures for 90 percent of its venues. The value of this restraint lies in matching investment to the actual duration of need.Limiting permanent construction to projects the city genuinely lacks ensures that public funds are not locked into idle concrete.

What matters here is that...

Beyond cutting initial costs, maximizing the benefits of new infrastructure requires embedding post-event conversion into the original design.New transport links and permanent venues only justify their expense when they continue to serve residents and attract visitors long after the closing ceremony. Without an early transition plan, even well-built stadiums can struggle to find a commercial purpose. Consider how previous host cities have repurposed flagship Olympic arenas into public sports complexes, concert halls, or tourist landmarks, such as Beijing transforming its aquatics center into a community water park and year-round attraction. What matters here is that the facility shifts smoothly from serving elite athletes to meeting everyday public and commercial demand. When new subway lines connect underserved neighborhoods and arenas generate steady ticket revenue, event-driven construction becomes a lasting dividend for the wider urban economy.

Ultimately, mega-sporting events are neither a guaranteed windfall nor an inevitable financial trap.Their outcome depends on whether host cities treat construction as a long-term civic investment rather than a short-term display of prestige. Built with restraint and designed for reuse, sporting infrastructure can enrich urban life without overburdening public finances.

Nowadays, many consumers, especially younger ones, love to try on clothes and shoes in the brick-and-mortar shops first and then purchase them online, a phenomenon named "showrooming" by sociologists. Some believe that showrooming is an effective way of making purchases and putting money into economical use while others doubt the practice, arguing that it erodes the interests of the physical shop owners, reduces job opportunities and may lead to the disappearance of offline shops. Which opinion do you agree with, and why?

Which opinion do you agree with, and why?

The Case for Showrooming in a Changing Retail Market,还记得第一节课专门讲过 the case for 吗?

我们在第一节课里强调过,改写材料不是逐词找同义词,更不能把材料里的 may lead to the disappearance of offline shops 悄悄加重成 will definitely destroy all physical stores。 Supporters see A as B, while critics worry that C

Trying on clothes or shoes in a physical store before buying the exact item online for less has become a common habit among young shoppers.Supporters view this practice, known as showrooming, as a sensible way to stretch a personal budget, whereas critics worry that it drains revenue from brick-and-mortar retailers, threatens retail jobs, and may eventually drive offline shops out of business. In my view, showrooming is a legitimate and rational choice for consumers. While it undoubtedly puts pressure on traditional store owners, that challenge calls for new retail strategies rather than restrictions or blame on buyers.

The value of X lies in...

One reason to regard showrooming as an effective shopping strategy is that it helps consumers avoid both costly mistakes and unnecessary markups.Clothing and footwear are difficult to judge on a screen alone, since sizing standards vary and fabric texture cannot be felt through a photograph. At the same time, young shoppers often operate on tight budgets and naturally compare prices before paying. Consider a university student who needs a pair of running shoes that will not cause injury.By trying the shoes on in a local store first, the student confirms the exact fit and support, and by ordering the same pair online at a lower price, keeps extra money for daily expenses. The value of this practice lies in combining the physical certainty of in-store inspection with the price transparency of the internet.Acting on available information to get the best value for money is a normal part of careful spending, not a moral failing.

Although X can A, this does not mean that B,或者 X may do A without necessarily doing B。

Admittedly, critics have a valid point when they argue that unpaid browsing places a heavy burden on physical retailers who still have to pay rent and staff wages. If a shop offers the exact same product at a much higher price with no added value, it will indeed struggle to survive. However, this pressure does not mean that offline stores are doomed to disappear. Instead, it pushes brick-and-mortar businesses to offer what an online checkout page cannot replicate. Consider how many clothing brands now match their online prices in physical branches or allow customers to try items in store and have them delivered home directly from the brand's own warehouse.Other shops retain customers by offering immediate tailoring, styling advice, or a pleasant social space. What matters here is whether physical retailers adapt to how people actually shop today. When stores integrate online convenience with in-person service, they can protect both their revenue and their employees' jobs without expecting consumers to overpay.

What matters here is whether...

X should be seen as... rather than...

Ultimately, showrooming should be seen as a natural outcome of price transparency rather than a threat that must be stamped out.It allows shoppers to spend their limited income wisely while reminding physical retailers that simply putting goods on a shelf is no longer enough. Rather than blaming consumers for comparing prices, offline shops can secure their future by turning the fitting room into the starting point of a better service experience.

Opening Doors to Chinese Culture beyond the Screen。 From Digital Spectacle to Cultural Understanding,或者 Modern Forms as a Bridge for Traditional Stories。

The global success of Black Myth: Wukong has shown that a classic Chinese tale can reach millions of overseas players through a modern video game. While many celebrate its commercial popularity as a triumph for cultural export, others question whether foreign audiences are merely drawn to visual spectacle without grasping the deeper cultural meaning behind it. Modern digital media should indeed be welcomed as a powerful vehicle for sharing traditional culture with the world. Yet the true success of cultural export should be judged by whether an engaging form can lower the barrier to entry while still inspiring audiences to explore the authentic traditions underneath.

The value of X lies in... 和 X may do A without necessarily doing B 的逻辑。

One reason modern media can effectively carry traditional culture abroad is that it lowers the initial barrier for unfamiliar audiences.Directly reading a translated classic like Journey to the West requires background knowledge that many foreign readers simply do not have. A well-crafted video game, however, speaks through responsive gameplay, striking visuals, and universal human emotions before asking players to process unfamiliar history. In Black Myth: Wukong, overseas players do not need a lecture on Chinese architecture or folk music to begin; instead, they encounter ancient temples scanned from Shanxi province and traditional headless-lute ballads naturally as part of their adventure. The value of this approach lies in turning passive cultural instruction into firsthand experience.Once players are drawn in by the quality of the game itself, curiosity often leads them to look up the original myths and even visit the real-life heritage sites in China. An accessible medium can therefore open a door that purely academic or official promotion rarely unlocks.

The value of this approach lies in

What matters here is whether...

However, attracting global attention is only the first step; sustaining cultural impact requires preserving the authenticity of the tradition being shared.A common risk in commercial adaptation is stripping away distinctive local values to fit standardized global templates, which leaves audiences with exotic imagery but little cultural substance. Black Myth: Wukong avoided this trap not by simplifying its source material into a generic superhero story, but by keeping the moral complexity, Buddhist and Taoist undertones, and poetic visual style of the original tale intact. Even when foreign players initially miss certain allusions, the richness of the world gives them something genuine to discover through community discussions and translations. What matters here is whether the modern product remains faithful enough to its roots that curiosity can grow into real understanding.Cultural export succeeds when creators use global industrial standards to present local heritage, rather than erasing cultural identity to chase quick sales.

Ultimately, the journey of Black Myth: Wukong shows that tradition does not have to choose between staying pure in isolation and losing itself in commercialization. The reach of cultural export depends on how well creators pair contemporary forms of expression with genuine cultural depth. When modern media serves as an honest bridge rather than a superficial disguise, classic stories can find new life across borders without losing their soul.
