本周主题：人与社会 · 文化与传承
同学们，咱们这周进入第五周了。前四周咱们聊了学习、交往、环境、情感，这周换个话题——文化和传承。这个主题在高考阅读里出现得不少，尤其是涉及传统节日、手工艺、历史建筑、文化差异的文章。词汇上，这周有不少词你可能“看着眼熟但说不准意思”，咱们一个一个来。
一、真题例句感知
先读句子，试着猜猜画线词的意思，再看后面的解释。
1. function

这台机器的功能是分拣可回收垃圾。
2. grant

二、5个重点多义词详解
这周的重点多义词是下面5个。高考喜欢考它们“你以为认识、其实考的是另一个意思”的那一面。
1. function
常见义（名词）：功能、作用
生义1（动词）：运作、运转
生义2（名词）：职能、职责
真题搭配：the function of...（……的功能）；function as（充当、起……作用）
记忆提示：function做名词是“功能”，做动词是“运作”。The machine functions well.（机器运转良好。）This room functions as a meeting hall.（这个房间充当会议室。）看到function as，就翻译成“充当”。
2. grant
常见义（动词）：授予、给予
生义1（动词）：同意、承认
生义2（名词）：拨款、补助金
真题搭配：grant sb sth（授予某人某物）；take sth for granted（认为某事理所当然）
记忆提示：grant最常考的其实是短语 take for granted——认为理所当然。这个短语在高考阅读和完形里出现过很多次。We should not take our parents’ love for granted.（我们不应该把父母的爱当作理所当然。）
3. handle
常见义（名词）：把手
生义1（动词）：处理、应对
生义2（动词）：触摸、拿
真题搭配：handle a problem / situation（处理问题/局面）；handle pressure（应对压力）
记忆提示：handle做动词是“处理”，跟deal with差不多。看到handle后面跟problem、situation、pressure，就是“处理、应对”。做名词是“把手”，这个意思学生一般都知道。
4. honor
常见义（名词）：荣誉、光荣
生义1（动词）：尊敬、表彰
生义2（名词）：荣幸的事
真题搭配：in honor of（为了纪念/向……致敬）；honor sb with sth（以某物向某人表示敬意）
记忆提示：honor做动词是“尊敬、表彰”。in honor of是“为了纪念”，这个短语在文化类文章里很常见。It is a great honor to...（很荣幸……）也是常考句型。
5. issue
常见义（名词）：问题、议题
生义1（动词）：发行、发布
生义2（名词）：（报刊的）期号
真题搭配：issue a statement（发表声明）；the latest issue（最新一期）；social issues（社会问题）
记忆提示：issue做名词是“问题”，做动词是“发行、发布”。看到issue a statement / warning / report，就是“发布”。看到the latest issue，就是“最新一期”。

读下面这篇短文，加粗的词都是本周学过的。读完后，试着说出每个加粗词的含义。
The Old Town’s New Life
Last summer, I visited an old town in the south of China. It has a long historical background and is famous for its traditional crafts. The local government granted it special protection status a few years ago, and since then, the town has gradually become a popular tourist spot.
What impressed me most was the way the local people handle the balance between tourism and tradition. They don‘t forbid visitors from entering the old streets, but they do guide them to respect the local culture. Many shops function as both workshops and stores.
