Recreation and Sports话题的教材内容涉及课标中相关话题的三大部分：电影与戏剧(Movies and theater)；音乐与舞蹈(Music and dance)；体育与赛事(Sports and matches)。

[A] During his stay in America, Li Hua found that not only students’ after-school life was different from that in China, but also the ways that American family spend their free time are different. Here’s what Li Hua has found.
What people choose to do in their spare time mainly depends on where they live, how much they make and what they’re interested in.
People living in different places usually prefer different activities. For example, people who live in snowy areas may enjoy skiing, while those who live near the sea may prefer water-based activities like surfing or boating. For people who live in big cities, they are surrounded with modern things, so they spend a lot of their free time on baseball games, concerts or art shows.
People’s financial condition can also have a big influence on how they spend their spare time. Americans who make $50,000 per year or more spend their free time playing sports like golf and tennis. On the other hand, Americans who make less than average(平均) are more likely to spend time watching TV and listening to the radio. However, no matter how much money they make, two things that almost all Americans like are books and music.
In addition to the factors above, personal interests also play an important role. A lot of people like traveling. They search for new places they’ve never seen and for exciting experiences they’ve never had. Some go to the mountain, where they can test their strength. Others go to the sea or to the lake, where they can rest peacefully. Also, quite a few people prefer playing sports that is needed for health and is a good way to relax as well. Baseball which holds a special place in every American’s heart is one of their choices.
[B]The most impressive movie I’ve ever seen is KungFu Panda. It was a story about a panda named Po, who wanted to be a Kungfu warrior. One day he was chosen by chance to be Dragon warrior to fight against a bad guy. But the master thought he was not strong enough and wanted to give him up. Through his hard-working, he finally defeated the bad guy and became the Dragon warrior.
The film is so interesting and also teaches us a great lesson. It tells the old and classic story about not giving up and believing in yourself. It is also very interesting to find out that the film is full of the Chinese elements and the music and lines in the movies are also very wonderful to represent the Chinese culture. It seems that Hollywood knows us better. The best line for me is Master’s saying “Yesterday is a history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that is why it is called present.”
[C]Music is the food for the soul, a pill for the mind. It helps to entertain and relax. Music is one of the oldest art. People use music in work, in personal and social activities.
Different kinds of music express different feeling and life experiences. For example, rock music can make you excited. Light music can make you relaxed and country music can make you not only enjoyable but also energetic.
At different ages, people have different ideas about music. Young people today like pop music which are full of energy while their parents prefer to listen to classical music.
As a saying goes, “Nothing is worth living for without music.” Let’s enjoy music together.
[D] I’m Max. I’m a student from No.7 Middle School. In my free time, I like watching different shows and movies. Game shows are my favorite because I can always learn a lot from them.
