The Mid-Autumn Festival matters a lot to Chinese people. This modern festival follows the lunar calendar. The full moon may look lovely, and its round meaning is family reunion. Maybe that’s why it’s so important. Last year, my family managed a special meeting.
In the morning, my mother made a long menu for our meal. The material for mooncakes was ready. I helped mix milk into it. “Don’t make a mess!” she said. Maybe I made a mistake, but it was okay. Our meal had mooncakes, meat, and more. Many members came, including my grandparents.
Then we went to the local market. Millions of people seemed to be there! A man sold magic mirrors. A Miss Chen showed us a modern mobile model. My father bought a magazine and a map. My mind was full of new things. We walked for over a mile.
The main event was at night. We sat together. I used my mobile to send a message. I mentioned the party to a member in London. I said I missed him. My grandfather, the master of stories, told one. It was about a medical hero who got a medal on the moon! It sounded like magic.
This year, we might meet at a mall in the middle of the city. I will mark the day with photos. I hope no one feels lonely. The festival means love and being together. That’s what matters.
