Since ancient times, China has witnessed a disparity—abundant in the south but deficient in the north. To effectively address the severe water shortage in the north, the Chinese government implemented the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. This is a grand water conservancy project for cross-regional water resource allocation. After decades of planning and preparation, the project started construction in 2002, consisting of three routes: eastern, central, and western, with a total length of 4,350 km, benefiting over 400 million people. Since the project began delivering water in 2014, it has diverted over 50 billion cubic meters of waterto the north, providing a reliable water source for people in northern China, while greatly improving the region’s ecological environment and promoting sustainable economic development.
