Some people believe that air travel should be restricted as it causesserious pollution and will use up the world's fuel resources. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Aviation accounts for roughly 2.5% of global CO2 emissions, but its growth rate far exceeds road transport or shipping. Without restrictions, emissions could triple by 2050 as emerging economies' air travel explodes, overwhelming other sectors' reductions.
Aircraft emissions at altitude—nitrogen oxides, water vapor, contrails—have 2-4 times the warming effect of ground-level CO2. Focusing solely on carbon systematically underestimates aviation's true climate impact in public discourse.
Aviation remains heavily dependent on kerosene with no large-scale alternatives amid depleting fossil reserves. Using this finite resource primarily for leisure travel by wealthier segments raises fundamental ethical questions about intergenerational resource allocation.
In regions with high-speed rail networks, numerous short-haul flights are entirely replaceable by electrified trains with 90% lower emissions. Taxing or banning such routes represents a reasonable and feasible policy starting point.
Modest restrictions create price signals that accelerate investment in sustainable fuels and hydrogen propulsion. Without demand-side pressure, the industry lacks the urgency needed for technological transformation at the required scale and speed.

Aviation supports 65 million jobs and 4.1% of global GDP. High-value trade, perishables, and emergency medical supplies depend on air freight. Restrictions would inflict severe economic damage affecting millions of livelihoods.
New aircraft are 80% more fuel-efficient than 50 years ago. Sustainable aviation fuels are commercially available while hydrogen and electric propulsion advance. Policy should accelerate deployment, not impose simplistic restrictions.
Many island and remote economies rely on tourism accessible only by air. Restrictions would devastate them. Furthermore, face-to-face meetings for business and family reunions hold social value that transcends carbon accounting.
Aviation's 2.5% share is far smaller than power generation or road transport. The governance costs of complex international aviation restrictions may exceed marginal abatement benefits compared to cheaper reduction opportunities.
Restriction of aviation results in societal inequality. Wealthy frequent flyers would remain unaffected while ordinary citizens face disproportionate restrictions on essential travel.

Some people believe that air travel should be restricted as it causesserious pollution and will use up the world's fuel resources. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Air travel has become an indispensable part of the modern transportation system. However, it is argued that air travel leads to environmental issues and should therefore be restricted. From my perspective, this view is unconvincing.
Proponents of restricting aviation have some compelling reasons, with the pollutants it generates being a primary concern. Specifically, airplanes rely heavily on fossil fuelsunder current technological conditions, and both the extraction and combustion of these fuels inevitably produce pollutants, including carbon dioxide and other toxic exhaust fumes. If this situation continues without appropriate measures being taken, it could lead to more serious consequences, such as the deterioration of wildlife habitats or an increase in the number of people suffering from lung diseases.Another reason given for restriction is that air travel consumes a vast amount of energy each year, and as the demand for flights grows, fuel will be consumed at an alarmingly increasing rate. Since the fuels on which airplanes depend are mostly non-renewable, a worldwide energy crisis may arrive far more quickly than previously predicted.
However, I strongly believe that restricting air travel is by no means a good idea. First of all, in many cases, airplanes are a crucial mode of transport and can hardly be replaced. For example, for travelers going on a long-haul travel, air travel is safer and more efficient than other transportation modes. Restricting air travel will bring drastic inconvenience and inefficiency for average people’s work and life, and thereby lead to more negative outcomes, such as a downturn in international business or a decline in international tourism. Furthermore, compared with resorting to restriction -- an oversimplified solution, governments and other relevant organisations should address the problems caused by air travel in more responsible ways. For instance, authorities can incentivise the manufacturing sector to invest more efforts and funds into upgrading current technology so as to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency. In this way, environmental concerns can be addressed without sacrificing the benefits of air travel.
In conclusion, while air travel does contribute to pollution and energy consumption, restricting it would cause unnecessary inconvenience and economic harm. Instead of imposing bans, governments should invest in greener aviation technologies. This approach addresses environmental concerns without sacrificing the undeniable benefits that air travel brings to modern society.
