In an age of globalisation, enriching students’ knowledge of traditional Chinese culture is not merely desirable but imperative. For university students, cultural literacy anchors identity while lending intellectual depth in an increasingly homogenised world.
To begin with, universities must move beyond tokenism and weave traditional culture into the fabric of daily learning. Courses on classical literature and philosophy should be rigorous yet engaging, enabling students to grapple with enduring ideas rather than skim the surface. Meanwhile, student societies can do their bit—staging festivals and immersive workshops that bring tradition to life.
Equally vital is the astute use of digital platforms. As attention spans contract, presenting tradition through short-form content and live-streamed events can amplify both its appeal and reach. With imaginative framing, the ancient need not feel archaic; rather, it can resonate with a distinctly contemporary pulse.
In short, enriching cultural knowledge is less about looking back than about drawing strength from the past to navigate the present. Get it right, and students will not merely inherit tradition, but reinvent and carry it forward with confidence and flair.
