Born in a small village in Northwest China in the early 1990s, I saw how busy farmers were in spring, and got to know what the season meant to them. Spring is a time when the land wakes up from its long sleep, and the fields are ready to be filled with crops. If you are lazy in spring, you will harvest nothing in autumn. Therefore, farmers seem to compete with time to sow seeds (播种).

When I was a little girl, every weekend I was busy planting crops from wheat and potatoes to soybeans and corn. Each kind has its unique joys and wisdom. For example, my family prepared the potato “seeds” by cutting the sprouted (发芽的) potatoes on our own. Sitting around a pile of sprouted potatoes, we were thinking about how to cut them smartly. The key is to make sure every piece of “seed” has one or two sprouts and is not too small. It’s really like a math game.

Farm work is also teamwork and that’s why every spring field is busy with people of all ages. I have vivid memories of planting soybeans-it’s a task requiring accuracy (准确性) and speed. While one person uses a shovel (铁锹) to create small holes in the soil, the other carefully sows a handful of seeds into each hole. Though it may sound simple, my initial tries often resulted in too many seeds or the seeds spilling (溢出). Then I was advised to bend a little bit while sowing the seeds. After some practice, I learned how to do it. I could hear the sounds of the shovel meeting the soil and the seeds falling into place-it’s like a harmonious symphony (交响乐).

Through farming work, I saw the great power of life in spring. Within weeks, all the seeds sprouted, encouraging us to care for them by weeding and fertilizing. At the beginning, they were all so small, but with time, they grew into healthy plants. Perhaps it’s because of these wonderful childhood experiences that I love spring so much.

26.According to the passage, why is spring very important for farmers?

A.Because it is a time when they can have a big harvest.

B.Because it is a time when farmers can enjoy the beauty of nature.

C.Because it is the time when they must work hard to ensure a good harvest in autumn.

D.Because spring is the only season suitable for planting crops

27.What is the key to preparing potato “seeds” according to the passage?

A.Sitting around a pile of sprouted potatoes.B.Ensuring each piece has one or two sprouts.

C.Cutting the potatoes into equal shapes.D.Using a special tool for cutting.

28.What does the underlined word “initial” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?

A.final.B.first.C.successful.D.nervous.

29.What can we infer from the passage?

A.The author thinks that spring is the least important season.

B.The author thinks farm work is very difficult.

C.The author learned a lot from doing farm work in spring.

D.The author didn’t do well in math when she was a child.

30.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

A.The Magic of Spring FieldsB.My Childhood Memories of Spring Farm Work

C.The Importance of Sowing Seeds in SpringD.How to Do Farm Work in Spring

Forests are often called the lungs (肺) of our planet—and for good reason! They produce clean air and create homes for millions of animals and plants. In fact, forests cover about 31% of the world’s land area, making them important for keeping the balance of nature.

One of the most amazing things about forests is that they are home to more than 80% of all land animals and plants. From tiny ants to large elephants, countless species (物种) depend on forests for food and places to live. There are about one-tenth of all known species on the earth living in the largest forest in the world, the Amazon rainforest, showing how rich forest ecosystems (生态系统) can be.

However, we are losing our forests at an alarming speed. Every year, about 10 million hectares (公顷) of forest disappear because of human activities like logging (伐木) and farming. This deforestation causes many problems, including land loss, climate change and so on.

The good news is that everyone can help protect our forests. Simple actions like recycling paper, using both sides of paper when writing, and giving away used books and notebooks instead of throwing them away. Many communities organize tree-planting activities that students and families can join. Remember, just one tree can take in about 21 kilograms of carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) each year!

Around the world, countries are working together to protect forests through international agreements. New technologies are used to watch over forests and prevent too much logging. By working together, we are sure to continue to enjoy many benefits that forests provide. (From Minimag March 2025)

Do you believe that tomatoes can “talk”? They know when it’s best to “talk” and when it’s best to “stay quiet”. Tomatoes always try their best to show their growth condition. For example, the big and bright leaves mean there will be many and sweet tomatoes. 36

How do tomatoes “talk” to each other? They produce chemicals called volatile organic compounds (VOCs,挥发性有机化合物) to “talk” with each other. 37 As a result, they can warn each other about dangers, let their enemies, such as insects, know to keep away.

But what will happen when a tomato plant meets a friend? Does it make more or less VOCs? 38 They are two mixed-breed (杂交品种) tomatoes and two traditional breeds. They checked and compared the tomatoes’ actions when. they were left alone and when they met friendly fungi (菌类). Researchers put the plants in a bag and checked the air around them. Then they waited to see what chemicals the tomatoes produced. The results showed that friendly fungi made the tomatoes produce fewer VOCs. 39

The results mean that we should not look down upon the plant. 40 The scientists are now looking into further studies to explain the reasons.

根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项,使文章意思通顺、内容完整。

A.Researchers studied four types of tomatoes.

B.Tomatoes use them to help protect themselves.

C.We need to learn more about this plant’s self-protection.
