Some people argue that daily news is irrelevant to ordinary people’s lives, and therefore reading newspapers or watching news on TV is merely a waste of time. I strongly disagree with this view, because news plays an essential role in individuals’ daily life and social development.
有些人认为，日常新闻与普通人的生活毫无关联，因此看报纸、收看电视新闻纯属浪费时间。我完全不认同这一观点，因为新闻在人们的日常生活与社会发展中都发挥着至关重要的作用。
Firstly, news helps people stay connected to the world and make sensible daily decisions. A large amount of news is closely related to public life, including weather warnings, policy changes, traffic updates and price trends. If people ignore news, they may be unprepared for sudden weather changes or new social rules. By contrast, accessing regular news allows citizens to arrange their travel, study and work reasonably. In this sense, news is practical and beneficial rather than meaningless.
首先，新闻帮助人们接轨外界，做出理性的日常决策。大量新闻内容都和大众生活息息相关，包括天气预警、政策变动、交通实时信息与物价走势。如果人们忽视新闻，就无法应对突发天气变化与新的社会规则。相反，定期了解新闻，能让人们合理规划出行、学习与工作。由此来看，新闻具备实用价值，并非毫无意义。
Secondly, news broadens people’s horizons and enriches their spiritual life. Modern news covers not only local events but also international affairs, cultural activities and scientific breakthroughs. For ordinary individuals who live in a limited environment, news is a convenient way to learn about different cultures, advanced technology and global issues. It prevents people from being narrow-minded and helps them form a comprehensive understanding of the world. This long-term benefit cannot be regarded as a waste of time.
其次，新闻能够拓宽人们的眼界，丰富精神生活。现代新闻不仅涵盖本地事件，还包括国际局势、文化活动与科技突破。对于生活环境有限的普通人而言，新闻是了解多元文化、前沿科技和全球问题的便捷途径。它避免人们思想狭隘，帮助大家全面认知世界。这种长远价值，绝不能被视作时间的浪费。
Admittedly, some news content is repetitive, entertaining or even exaggerated, which seems useless to viewers. However, this does not mean all news lacks value. People can choose reliable news sources and select useful information according to their own needs. It is unreasonable to deny the importance of news just because of a small number of low-quality reports.
不可否认，部分新闻内容重复、娱乐化，甚至夸大事实，看似毫无用处。但这并不代表所有新闻都没有价值。人们可以选择权威可靠的新闻渠道，结合自身需求筛选有效信息。仅仅因为少量低质量报道，就全盘否定新闻的意义，是非常片面的。
In conclusion, although some people consider news unnecessary, I believe news is closely linked to our daily life. It offers practical information, expands our knowledge and helps us engage with society. Thus, reading and watching news is a valuable habit instead of a waste of time.
