1.Do you enjoy social gatherings with friends or family? Why or why not?

I enjoy family reunion a lot.

It is like a harbor where I could take a rest when I feel exhausted. This is because staying with families allows me to be who I am, just like an 8-year-old boy. We could talk about what has happened lately and laugh at the jokes that only we know. This makes me feel absolutely relaxed. Everyhting is just the same old story. It seems that nothing has changed except me leaving hometown for many years. Getting together with families prepares me for the next voyage. Besides, we always feel the love when parents stuff the luggages with all sorts of local specialties.

2.In your culture, what activities do people usually do during social gatherings?

Well, there are so many activities that we love to do.

First, playing card games is the number one recreational activity. It fills the air with excitement and joy. Often, we could play for hours. It is definitely a time killer.

Second, cooking together is also fun. Basically, we are divided into two groups where some of us are responsible for preparing all the food materials and some are real chef who make a feast. Sometimes, we even do the barbecue in the backyard which I love the most. During the process, we could talk, laugh and sing. Therefore, it never feels bored and there is nothing better than having delicious food and drinks till midnight.

3.How can social gatherings help people build or maintain friendships?

I think social gatherings help friendships.

First, we learn more about each other. The more deeply we know our friends, the better since we are aware of how to communicate and get along with them in a more comfortable way. For example, if my best friend is reluctant to say anything about his family, I won't bring up the topic in the following days unless he wants to have a talk on it.

Second, we can get support from friends. Let's say, I encounter a challenge from work. I am in a despair. My friends would listen and try to figure out how to help me out. At least, they would encourage me by saying that everything is gonna be all right.

4.Some people prefer spending time with a few close friends, while others prefer large social events where they can meet many new people. Which do you prefer?

I prefer to hang out with a few close friends.

To begin with, it is more flexible and convenient. For example, if I want to throw a birthday party, it would be hard to make appointments with a large group of people because of the time conflicts. However, it is much easier to ask a number of people out because it is easier to find a time where all of us are available.

Plus, it is free and comfortable. This is because I have to break the ice with new people in a large social event. It is annoying. And my close friends know me well, which means that they won't come up with a terrible idea when they know how I would feel towards that.
