Do you like doing experiments? In this experiment, you will use electricity to split(分离) water into hydrogen(氢) and oxygen.
What You Need
✦two 2B pencils with no erasers at the ends scissors
✦thin piece of cardboard
✦1 teaspoon salt
✦small clear glass, half full of warm water two 20cm pieces of electrical wire (线)
✦9-volt battery
1. Sharpen each pencil at both ends. Use scissors to cut two holes in the cardboard about 2.5cm away from each other. Then push the pencils through the cardboard.
2. Add the salt in the glass of water for better electrical conductivity(导电性).
3.Wrap (缠绕) one end of one wire around the positive terminal(+) of the battery, and the other end around the tip (尖端) of one of the pencils. Wrap the second wire around the negative terminal(-) of the battery and the tip of the second pencil.
4. Place the free ends of the pencil in the water, with the cardboard resting on top of the glass.
