BDCDB
More frequent wildfires have become a national concern because in 2015 they ________.
[A] exhausted unprecedented management efforts.
[B] consumed a record-high percentage of budget. ✓
[C] severely damaged the ecology of western states.
[D] caused a huge rise of infrastructure expenditure.
In 2015, the US Forest Service for the first time spent more than half of its $5.5 billion annual budget fighting fires – nearly double the percentage it spent on such efforts 20 years ago."
[A] 耗尽了前所未有的管理努力——把"预算"换成"努力",偷换概念;
[B] 占用了创纪录比例的预算(a record-high percentage of budget)——"首次超过一半 + 近两倍于 20 年前"的准确概括,当选 B;
[C] 严重破坏了西部各州的生态——western states 出自第 1 段"常被视为"的旧观念,且原文未谈"破坏生态",张冠李戴;
Moritz calls for the use of "a magnifying glass" to ________.
[A] raise more funds for fire-prone areas.
[B] avoid the redirection of federal money.
[C] find wildfire-free parts of the landscape.
[D] guarantee safer spending of public funds. ✓
a magnifying glass(引号内短语,唯一出现),锁定第四段 ②。
②"We need to take a magnifying glass to that, like 'Wait a minute, is this OK?'"③"Do we want instead to redirect those funds to concentrate on lower-hazard parts of the landscape?"
[A] 为火灾高发区筹措更多资金——原文恰恰是质疑把钱花在火灾高发区,反义;
[B] 避免联邦资金被改投——原文主张的正是 redirect(改投到低风险区),本项与作者立场正相反;
[C] 找到景观中"无火"的区域——原文是 lower-hazard(风险较低),不是 wildfire-free(完全无火),绝对化偷换;
While admitting that climate is a key element, Moritz notes that ________.
[A] public debates have not settled yet.
[B] fire-fighting conditions are improving.
[C] other factors should not be overlooked. ✓
[D] a shift in the view of fire has taken place.
While climate is a key element, Moritz says, it shouldn't come at the expense of the rest of the equation."
[A] 公开争论尚未平息——无中生有;
[B] 灭火条件正在改善——无中生有,且与"火灾条件恶化"相反;
[C] 其他因素不应被忽视(other factors should not be overlooked)——"不应以牺牲等式其余部分为代价"的同义概括,当选 C;
The overly simplified view Moritz mentions is a result of failing to ________.
[A] discover the fundamental makeup of nature.
[B] explore the mechanism of the human systems.
[C] maximize the role of landscape in human life.
[D] understand the interrelations of man and nature. ✓
overly simplified view(overly simplified 全文仅一次),锁定第八段 ②。
①"The human systems and the landscapes we live on are linked, and the interactions go both ways," he says.②"Failing to recognize that, he notes, leads to 'an overly simplified view of what the solutions might be'."
[A] 发现自然的基本构成——原文讲的是"关系/相互作用",不是"构成成分",偷换;
[B] 探究人类系统的运作机制——只抓了 human systems 一半,漏掉 landscapes,以偏概全;
[C] 最大化景观在人类生活中的作用——原文无"最大化"之意,无中生有;
[D] 理解人与自然的相互关系(interrelations of man and nature)——"human systems and landscapes are linked / interactions go both ways"的同义改写,当选 D。
Professor Balch points out that fire is something man should ________.
[A] do away with.
[B] come to terms with. ✓
[C] pay a price for.
[D] keep away from.
Professor Balch(人名,全文末两段才出场),锁定第九、十段。
第九段 ②"But acknowledging fire's inevitable presence in human life is an attitude crucial to developing the laws, policies, and practices that make it as safe as possible..."第十段 ①"We've disconnected ourselves from living with fire... understand... what is the human connection with fire today."
[A] 消灭(do away with)——与"承认其不可避免"矛盾,反义;
[B] 接受、与……妥协(come to terms with)——acknowledging its inevitable presence + living with fire 的同义概括,当选 B;
[C] 为……付出代价(pay a price for)——无中生有;
[D] 远离(keep away from)——与 living with fire 正相反,反义。

① 比喻/引号短语题先还原喻体:37 题的 a magnifying glass 不是字面放大镜,要借下句 is this OK? 与 redirect funds 读成"审查、审视资金去向";
② 让步状语从句重点在主句:38 题 While climate is a key element 只是退让,答案在主句 shouldn't come at the expense of the rest,见 While/Although/Despite 先找主句;
③ 因果题必抓指代:39 题 Failing to recognize that 的 that 指代前句"人类系统与景观相互关联、作用双向",指代找错就会误选 B(只抓一半)或 C;
④ 转折词后才是作者态度:40 题第九段 ② 的 But acknowledging... 才是 Balch 真正的立场,前面"人们仍把火当必须完全控制的事件"是被否定的靶子;
