1、You've Got to Find What You Love
Steve Jobs · 2005 · Stanford University Commencement Address
Of course, it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later. Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference.
My second story is about love and loss. I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life. We worked hard, and in ten years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4,000 employees. Then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started?
I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work, and the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking, and don't settle.
Stay hungry. Stay foolish.

Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.
I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did.
【结构】主干 I'm convinced that…(我坚信…)。第一个 that 引导宾语从句;该从句中 the only thing 后接 that 定语从句 that kept me going;表语 was 后接 that 表语从句 that I loved what I did;其中 what 引导宾语从句作 loved 的宾语。
The only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.
The only way to do A is to do B(做到 A 的唯一方法是做 B)。
If you haven't found it yet, keep looking, and don't settle.
Stay hungry. Stay foolish.
This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference.
2、The Benefits of Failure
J.K. Rowling · 2008 · Harvard University Commencement Address
You might never fail on the scale I did, but some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all — in which case, you fail by default.
Failure gave me an inner security that I had never attained by passing examinations. Failure taught me things about myself that I could have learned no other way. I discovered that I had a strong will, and more discipline than I had suspected.
So given a Time-Turner, I would tell my 21-year-old self that personal happiness lies in knowing that life is not a checklist of acquisition or achievement. Your qualifications, your CV, are not your life. What is more, the kind of failure that results from a refusal to fear the dark is invaluable. And so today, I wish you failure.

It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all — in which case, you fail by default.
It is impossible to live…,it 为形式主语,真正主语是不定式 to live…。without failing at something
Failure taught me things about myself that I could have learned no other way.
【结构】主干 Failure taught me things,things 后接 that 定语从句;could have learned 为‘情态动词 + have done’虚拟结构,表示‘本可以(学到)却未(以别的方式)学到’。
