This fun day started in 1995. John Baur and Mark Summers, two friends from the US, were playing racquetball. During their game, they acted like pirates and shouted words like "Arrr!" and "Avast!" Then, the Miami Herald newspaper wrote about it, and soon people everywhere joined in!
这个趣味节日始于1995年。美国的两位朋友约翰・鲍尔与马克・萨默斯在打壁球的时候，模仿海盗大喊“Arrr！”“Avast！”这类话语。之后《迈阿密先驱报》对此进行了报道，很快各地的人们都参与进来。
They got their “pirate talk” from movies. In movies, pirates always talk in a special way.For example, they often drop the “g” sound. “Going” becomes “goin”, and “talking” becomes “talkin”. They also say “me” instead of “I” or “my”. When they are happy, excited or surprised, they shout “Arrr!”
他们的“海盗腔”源自电影。电影中海盗说话方式很特别：经常省略词尾g的发音，going说成goin，talking说成talkin；还用me代替I或者my。开心、激动、惊讶的时候，他们就大喊“Arrr！”But real pirates didn’t have a shared language. They came from all over the world and spoke different languages. So, why do people love “pirate talk”? Simple - it’s fun!
但是真实历史上的海盗并没有统一语言，他们来自世界各地，说着不同语言。人们热衷于模仿海盗说话，原因很简单——只是为了好玩！
We often think of old pirates as fun,but they were bad. The real pirates of the Caribbean did their pirating in the late 1600s and early 1700s. They took gold, drinks and goods from others. But pirating isn’t just something from the past. Somali pirates still attack ships today. They are still a big problem.
我们总觉得古代海盗很有趣，但真实的海盗是坏人。17世纪末到18世纪初的加勒比海盗抢夺他人的黄金、酒水与货物。海盗劫掠并非只存在于过去，如今索马里海盗依旧袭击船只，仍是一大隐患。
本文为趣味文化类短文，既要掌握节日起源、海盗特色表达；但从价值观方面也要分清电影虚构海盗形象与历史上真实海盗的故事，不把劫掠的海盗美化成好玩的角色。
