第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
A New Era of Learning
Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping childhood in far-reaching ways. From school to home, AI is changing how children learn, play and form relationships. It brings benefits but also dangers.
AI in Education
AI use in schools has become common. Here is the result of a survey (see the chart below) from the RAND Corporation, a research organisation.
Governments are supporting this trend. The United States encourages schools to integrate AI fundamentals into all subjects. Singapore has introduced AI lessons in primary schools. In Hangzhou, children receive at least ten hours of annual instruction in AI.
Teachers use AI to generate quizzes as well as personalised assignments for students. A trial in 68 secondary schools in England found that science teachers equipped with ChatGPT could reduce their weekly lesson-planning time by nearly a third.
Risks and Concerns
Despite the benefits, there are worries. Some believe AI may weaken children’s thinking skills. A survey found that 21% of primary and secondary students said they would rather rely on AI than think independently. Researchers at MIT found that students using ChatGPT while writing essays showed less brain activity and were less able to recall what they had written.
Classroom learning remains important. Whole-class learning may be slower than AI-powered personalised tutoring, but it enhances children’s skills like interacting, cooperating and reaching an agreement — “things that an AI tutor could short-circuit”, says Julia Kaufman of RAND.
Moving Forward
Schools need to guide students on how to use AI. AI tools should be designed to encourage thinking, not just provide answers. With cautious use, AI can be a helpful partner in education. But the human elements of learning — connection, conversation and cooperation — remain irreplaceable.

The moment I slid into the car, Mom hit me with the news: I was to spend the afternoon with Grandpa while she attended a meeting. My protest was immediate, but in vain, as Dad was also away on business.
When we entered Grandpa’s apartment, he sat before the television. Not long after Mom left, an awkward stillness settled between us. When I tried to find a comfortable position on the worn sofa, my foot hit something solid under the furniture, and I pulled out a wooden box. Grandpa glanced over, “Oh — my chess set.” I really didn’t know Grandpa used to play chess. I just knew a boy in my class played and entered tournaments.
After a thoughtful pause, he offered to teach me. Grandpa introduced each piece — the king’s deliberate steps, the queen that “zips all over”, knights tracing L-shaped paths. He made me name them all and demonstrate their moves repeatedly, correcting my bad moves with unexpected patience.
During our first game, he explained every move, revealing strategic possibilities and warning against traps. I was confused by the interconnected nature of the game — how each move opened countless possibilities. Just when I thought I’d made a smart move, he would capture my piece. Eventually, he announced checkmate, my king cornered and immobile. Game after game, I lost, but each lasted a little longer.
Mom’s return interrupted our game. “Chess? Did you take it easy on him, Dad?”
“Absolutely not. That’s not how learning works.”
She shot him a disapproving glance, but Grandpa added, “He did well. He learned a lot.”
Grandpa was right. The game revealed a truth beyond the board — life, like chess, is a web of connections where each choice shapes what follows. The rigid lines between us had softened, replaced by something unspoken yet real. When I thanked Grandpa for the chess lesson, he smiled in recognition — the first time I could ever remember seeing him do so.
4. What was the relationship between the author and his Grandpa before that afternoon?

A. A person who checks the result.
B. A situation where no move remains.
C. A position where the king stays.
D. A move that captures one of the knights.
6. Why wouldn’t Grandpa go easy on the author?
A. To express his disapproval.
B. To help the author improve quickly.
C. To reveal a truth to the author.
D. To show interconnected nature of the game.
7. What is the best title for the passage?
A. A Strict Grandpa.B. A Connecting Web.
C. A Newly-formed Bond.D. A Pleasant Chess Lesson.

In the high-mountain grasslands of eastern California, a gray owl (猫头鹰) rests beside a road within Yosemite National Park. He is focused on his prey across the road. As he takes off, flying just inches over the pavement, a car speeds by, narrowly missing him.
Many owls are not as fortunate. Since 2003, 23 individuals — over 11% of the present population — have been killed by vehicles. These small, genetically unique owls struggle to survive. Park biologist Heather Mackey says they’re a signature species of Yosemite.
Therefore, Yosemite partnered with the Institute for Bird Populations to conduct a study on owl activities from 2022 to 2024. The first step was the hardest: capturing the owls to attach trackers. The team finally fitted six owls with specially designed lightweight GPS backpacks. By downloading GPS signals monthly, Dustin Garrison, National Park Service biologist as well as the primary field technician on the study, and his colleagues gained precise data on the owls’ habitat use and hunting patterns.
Owls depend on Yosemite’s wet, open grasslands surrounded by old-growth forest and rich in the birds’ favored prey. But these habitats are increasingly at risk. More alarmingly, owls seemed to favor dangerous roadsides for hunting. “The study revealed a high concentration of owl territories along roadsides,” notes biologist Ramiro Aragon. “It might be that roads cut through areas owls use. So it’s hard to say if they’re attracted to roads or actually just caught in between.”
Data also shows owl activity overlaps (重叠) with traffic peaks. They were most active after sunset and between 4 and 6 a.m., while public entry without reservation is allowed before 6 a.m. “We can use the data to regulate the timing so we’re not creating an artificial push of traffic right around peak hours of owl activity,” Mackey says. Researchers also propose other protective measures, including reducing speed limits along key roads, and modifying roadside vegetation to make it less attractive.
“There are two ways to approach changes,” Garrison notes. “You either modify human behavior, or you modify wildlife behavior.”
8. Why does the author describe the scene in Paragraph 1?
A. To show how fortunate the owl is.
B. To predict the outcome of the owl.
C. To present how natural the park is.
D. To illustrate the problem the owls face.
9. What was the most challenging part of the study?
A. Putting trackers on owls.B. Observing owls at night.
C. Making lighter backpacks.D. Analyzing the GPS data.
10. What is Ramiro’s attitude to owls’ preference for roadside hunting?
A. Concerned.B. Subjective.C. Supportive.D. Critical.
11. What suggestion is proposed to solve the overlap between owl activity and traffic peaks?
A. Limit road speed.B. Set public entry limitation.
C. Change roadside plants.D. Adjust reservation schedule.
【答案】8. D9. A10. A11. D

After decades of limited use, geothermal (地热) energy is experiencing a global revival. The United Downs plant in Cornwall, England, has become the first geothermal facility to supply electricity to the UK grid (电网), generating electricity while also producing lithium (锂) for batteries.
The developer says geothermal energy is experiencing a renaissance, driven by continuous renewable energy demand in the US and Europe. Unlike weather-dependent wind and solar, geothermal provides continuous clean power with shorter construction period than nuclear and less environmental impact than hydropower.
Geothermal power, though used for decades in volcanic hotspots, currently meets less than 1% of global energy demand. This could soon change, as the International Energy Agency says it may meet up to 15% of the expected growth in electricity demand by 2050.
The Cornwall project reflects both the challenges and opportunities of this energy source. Geothermal exploration occurred during the oil crises of the 1970s. However, financing remained difficult as it carries oil-and-gas level risk but with lower returns. The project eventually secured funds and drilled two deep wells in 2018 and 2019. Underground, natural radioactive materials heat water to nearly 190°C under high pressure, which is then brought to the surface to generate electricity. An unexpected discovery added new value: the hot water contains significant lithium, essential for electric vehicle batteries, which could generate ten times more benefits than electricity itself, making such projects more financially attractive.
Geothermal is becoming economical beyond shallow hotspots thanks to technological advances. Techniques borrowed from oil and gas drilling, including horizontal drilling and high-pressure water injection to crack hot rocks, allow access to geothermal energy in far more locations.
Concerns remain about potential earthquakes and water pollution, but experts argue these risks can be managed. As more projects emerge worldwide, communities and investors are likely to grow more comfortable with the technology. With its ability to provide stable clean power around the clock, this ancient energy source may finally be coming into its own.
12. How does the author introduce geothermal energy in Paragraph 2?
A. By listing examples.B. By giving a definition.
C. By making comparison.D. By explaining cause and effect.
13. What mainly boosts geothermal projects’ financial appeal?
A. Higher safety level.B. The discovery of its byproduct.
C. Lower drilling costs.D. Rising demand of clean energy.
14. What benefit do advanced drilling techniques bring to geothermal use?
A. Lithium may be economical.B. Earthquake risks may be avoided.
C. More regions will be covered.D. Environmental harm will be reduced.
15. What can be inferred about geothermal energy?
A. It is a new form of green energy.
B. Its potential risks have been addressed.
C. It has become economic worldwide.
D. Its use may support growing energy demand.

Human personalities are typically sorted into two categories: the introverted (内向的) and the extroverted. Introverts prefer quiet reflection, while extroverts lean toward lively interactions. These differing tendencies shape distinct behaviors, often causing misunderstandings. Thus, it is vital to understand them.
Introversion and extroversion are at opposite extremes, yet most people fall somewhere in between. ____16____ For instance, people often become more introverted as they age, a shift driven by changes in motivation, energy levels, and lifestyle. Context also plays a crucial role. Someone who lacks regular social interaction might become outgoing in a new environment. ____17____ Instead, recognize their dynamic personalities shaped by time and circumstance.
When a friend’s behavior unsettles you, first trace the root to their basic nature, which naturally shapes their everyday actions. An introvert may perceive a private question as impolite, while an extrovert might intend friendliness with it. ____18____ In this way, a solid bond can be formed.
Since these character differences easily cause tensions, open dialogue becomes crucial when conflicts arise. ____19____ And since this is a shared effort, you and your friend must both speak up. If you’re more introverted, you can request pauses to share your ideas; if your friend is more extroverted, he can focus on listening more, which fosters balanced interaction.
____20____ Introverts do well in quiet reflection, offering others a sense of calm and ease. Extroverts, by contrast, shine with energy, lifting spirits and breaking the stillness. This is why we should embrace each friend with an admiring mindset. We must reject rigid labels, honor differences, and bridge gaps through respect.
A. Personality styles are never fixed.
B. The first step is to clearly voice your needs.
C. However, these conflicts can be worked out.
D. Such misunderstandings don’t come from rudeness, just differences.
E. Given these differences, set aside judgment and respect these distinctions.
F. Every personality, whether introverted or extroverted, has remarkable strengths.
G. Therefore, avoid labeling friends simply as absolute “introverts” or “extroverts”.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Kenneth is now a science researcher at Harvard University. But he first came into the spotlight for a button-sized warning device he created at 15, one that greatly eased the burden on caregivers.
Back then, Kenneth lived with his family, including his grandfather, who had Alzheimer’s disease. Late one night, his grandfather was found wandering on a highway. Kenneth’s mother, the main caregiver, had fallen asleep for only a few minutes after days of constant care. Seeing her exhaustion, Kenneth decided to do something. He wanted to keep his grandfather safe while giving his mother some relief.
To learn more, Kenneth visited a local care center and met Ms. Brown, the head of the center. She told Kenneth that many elderly people had the same problem, and their families were under great pressure as well. Kenneth searched for a device that could warn the caregivers when the elderly residents got out of bed. But nothing on the market met the needs. So he was determined to take advantage of his strength in science to make one himself.
Night after night, Kenneth tested sensors and circuits, but the design failed again and again. Yet whenever he thought of his demanding grandfather, his tired mother, and other elderly people in need, he returned to his desk.
A year later, Kenneth finally created a pair of sensor socks. One night, he helped his grandfather put them on and waited with his mother. When his grandfather got out of bed, an alert sounded on his mother’s phone. Overjoyed, his mother said, “You made it! This will be a great help to me!”
Believing that what had helped his family might also help others, Kenneth returned to the care center to introduce the socks. Many caregivers showed interest, but the elderly were less enthusiastic. Ms. Brown asked, “Do they have to wear the socks while sleeping?” Kenneth nodded. “Yes, that’s how it works.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Ms. Brown frowned, saying many elderly people were not used to sleeping with socks on.
While reflecting on Ms. Brown’s suggestions, Kenneth suddenly noticed a button.
【答案】
Ms. Brown frowned, saying many elderly people were not used to sleeping with socks on. Some felt uncomfortable wearing socks in bed, especially during warm nights, while others with sensitive skin found the fabric irritating. A few even refused outright, insisting they had never slept with socks on in their entire lives. Kenneth’s heart sank, but he knew Ms. Brown was right. An invention that only pleased caregivers but bothered the elderly would never truly work. He thanked her sincerely for the honest feedback and left the care center, his mind racing to find a more acceptable solution.
While reflecting on Ms. Brown’s suggestions, Kenneth suddenly noticed a button. An idea flashed through his mind — why not make the sensor as tiny as a button and attach it to the elderly’s pajamas instead? Thrilled, he rushed home and started redesigning the device. Weeks later, he created a button-sized warning device that could be easily sewn onto clothing. When he returned to the care center and showed it to the elderly residents, they barely noticed its presence. His mother and countless other caregivers finally found the relief they desperately needed, and Kenneth’s invention went on to help families far beyond his own.
