Today is the second day of the second lunar month, a special traditional Chinese festival — Dragon Head-Raising Day, also known as Longtaitou Festival. It is called “dragon raising its head” because ancient people believed this day means the dragon wakes up from winter sleep and brings warm spring rains.

今天是农历二月初二，是中国一个特别的传统节日——龙抬头。之所以叫“龙抬头”，是因为古人认为这一天象征着龙从冬眠中苏醒，会带来温润的春雨。

In Chinese culture, the dragon is a powerful symbol of good luck, wealth and harvest. For thousands of years, Chinese people have called themselves “descendants of the dragon”. That is why this festival is full of meaningful customs, all connected with wishes for a nice spring and good luck in the new year.

在中国文化中，龙是吉祥、富足与丰收的有力象征。数千年来，中国人都自称“龙的传人”，这也是这个节日充满寓意习俗的原因，所有习俗都寄托着人们对美好春日、新年顺遂的期盼。

One of the most popular customs is getting a haircut. People call it “cutting the dragon’s head”. It is said that a haircut on this day can drive away bad luck and bring good fortune for the whole year. Many parents take their children to have haircuts early in the morning, hoping their kids will grow up healthily and smoothly.

最受欢迎的习俗之一是理发，人们称之为“剃龙头”。据说这天理发能驱散霉运，为一整年带来好运。很多家长一大早就带孩子去剪发，期盼孩子健康成长、万事顺遂。

People also eat special food on this day, and most foods are named after dragons. For example, noodles are called “dragon’s beard”, dumplings are “dragon’s ears”, and popcorn is “dragon’s scales”. Eating these foods shows people’s hope for good harvest and healthy life.

人们在这天还会吃特色食物，大部分食物都以龙命名。比如，面条被称作“龙须”，饺子是“龙耳”，爆米花是“龙鳞”。吃这些食物，寄托着人们对丰收与健康生活的美好愿望。

Nowadays, we still keep these warm traditions. Dragon Head-Raising Day is not just an old festival. It carries our traditional culture, reminds us of the beauty of spring, and passes down the best wishes from our ancestors. It is a valuable part of Chinese culture that we should remember and cherish.
