A Choice in the Rain
Last Wednesday's storm turned my walk home into a test of character.
上周三的暴风雨将我的回家之路变成了性格的考验。
Halfway, the sky unleashed heavy rain.
走到一半，天空下起了大雨。
I ran for shelter under a bus stop, joining three strangers.
我跑到公交站台躲雨，加入了三个陌生人。
A mother with a young child, an elderly man with groceries, and me.
一位带着幼儿的母亲，一位带着杂货的老人，还有我。
Ten minutes later, a taxi stopped before us.
十分钟后，一辆出租车停在我们面前。
The driver rolled down his window: "One passenger only."
司机摇下车窗：“只能载一位乘客。”
We all needed it equally.
我们同样都需要它。
The elderly man gestured to the mother.
老人向母亲示意。
She shook her head. "Your groceries will spoil."
她摇摇头。“您的杂货会坏的。”
They looked at me.
他们看向我。
Something clicked inside.
我内心突然明白了。
"I live closest," I lied. "I'll walk."
“我住得最近，”我撒了谎。“我步行。”
The mother helped the old man in with his bags.
母亲帮助老人带着他的袋子上了车。
As the taxi drove away, a strange warmth filled me despite the cold rain.
当出租车开走时，尽管下着冷雨，一股奇异的温暖充满了我的内心。
Sometimes, the right choice isn't about getting what you need, but realizing others need it more.
有时，正确的选择不是得到你需要的，而是意识到他人更需要它。
I arrived home soaked but light.
我回到家时浑身湿透，但内心轻盈。
Character isn't built in comfort, but in moments when you choose inconvenience for someone else's sake.
品格不是在舒适中建立的，而是在你为了他人选择不便的时刻建立的。
