My hometown has many wonderful traditional customs, which are full of love and warmth.
The most important custom is celebrating the Spring Festival, the biggest festival in China. It is a time for family reunion.
A week before the festival, we start to prepare. My mother is busy cooking and shopping. My father and I clean the house thoroughly to sweep away bad luck. We also paste red Spring Festival couplets on the doors and windows, which symbolize good fortune. The most interesting part is making dumplings. The whole family sits around the table to make dumplings together. We often hide a coin in one dumpling,whoever finds it will have good luck in the new year.
On New Year’s Eve, we have a big reunion dinner. After dinner, we watch the Spring Festival Gala on TV and chat happily.When midnight comes, we set off fireworks to celebrate the new year. The sky is full of colorful light, making the night very beautiful.
On the first day of the new year, we wear new clothes and visit our relatives and friends. We say "Happy New Year" to each other and get red envelopes from our elders. It is really a happy and exciting time.
These customs are part of our life. They bring us happiness and let us know about our culture. We should cherish them and pass them on.
