World Sleep Day: Sleep Well, Live Better

March 21 is World Sleep Day. It aims to remind people of the importance of good sleep. However, today more and more people are facing sleep problems, especially teenagers. Many of us find it hard to fall asleep at night, often wake up during sleep, or feel tired even after a long sleep. These problems are greatly influenced by the overuse of the Internet and electronic products.

Nowadays, phones, computers and other devices are everywhere in our life. Before going to bed, many teenagers like watching short videos, playing games or chatting online. The blue light from screens stops our body from making melatonin, the hormone that helps us sleep. What’s more, the exciting information on the Internet keeps our brain active, making it difficult to calm down. Staying up late online also breaks our daily biological clock. Gradually, we form bad sleep habits and feel sleepy and stressed during the day.

To solve these problems, we need scientific ways to improve our sleep. First, we should stay away from electronic devices one hour before bed. We can read paper books, listen to soft music or do some light stretching instead. Second, keep a regular sleep schedule. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even on weekends. Third, make our bedroom quiet, dark and cool, which helps us fall asleep quickly. Besides, avoid drinking coffee or tea after noon and don’t eat too much before sleep.

Good sleep is very important for our study and health. It makes us energetic, improves our memory and helps us grow healthily. On World Sleep Day, let’s take action to form healthy sleep habits and enjoy a better life.
