It was December 22, 1987, when the doctor explained he was going to have to amputate(截肢) my right leg before the aggressive cancer moved to my lungs. The doctor wanted me to do the surgery before Christmas.

I calmly asked him if he could guarantee me another Christmas. He shook his head sadly.I smiled,“Well, my three-year-old is expecting Mommy to be there on Christmas morning to open presents with him. And I want one more night of dancing on two legs with my husband.I' ve checked my calendar, and I'm free on January 6th. Will that work for you?” His mouth opened, but no words came out. Finally, he nodded,“I' ll make that work.”

One day, after the surgery, I made my way to a store on my crutches(拐杖). I wandered around for a while before deciding to leave. When I tried to push open the door to head back, nothing happened. The door was too heavy. Seriously? This is what my life on one leg is goingto be like? Now, I can't even open a door for myself? Then, a man appeared behind me. In a voice that was both soft and strong, he asked if he could help me with the door.

In that moment, I had a choice. I could have refused his help and insisted I could do it myself, which was a lie. Or I could do what I did, which was to look up at him with gratitude and say,“Yes, please.” He smiled down at me, and with one hand, he pushed it open for me. With relief beyond words, I said a simple“Thank you,” and his reply helped shape my life as an amputee. He said,“You are so very welcome. It is entirely my pleasure.”

Up until losing my leg, I had always been the giver. Now, it was my turn to learn to accept help with grace. Anyway, it is impossible to be a gracious giver if someone is not an equally gracious receiver.

24. Why did the author want to put off her surgery?

A. To select a special date.

B. To finish her previous job.

C. To spend a memorable holiday.

D. To challenge the doctor's work.

26. Which of the following words can be used to describe the author?

C. Brave and independent.D. Determined and emotional.

27. What is the main lesson the author learned from her experience?

A. It's better to give than to receive.

B. When one door closes, another opens.

C. God helps those who help themselves.

D. The hand that receives honors the hand that gives.

A new project is hoping to save the threatened British swallowtail butterfly by rearing the insects from frozen eggs———a process known as cryopreservation, where biological material is preserved at extremely low temperatures for future use.

This rare species—mostly black and cream with red and blue false eyes on its wings to discourage predators(掠食动物)— is only found in East Anglia and is Britain's largest native butterfly. It is typically seen in areas of the Norfolk Broads, but living in such a limited area puts its future at risk. British swallowtails are classified as endangered and are threatened by climate change, habitat loss and loss of genetic diversity.“Although this has been an excellentlong-term picture for the British swallowtail, it is one of decline,” says Dr Alvin Helden atAnglia Ruskin University (ARU).

Experts from ARU are now testing new solutions to slow this decline further.“Our project will combine fieldwork and lab research to see if we can establish a reliable method for

preserving the British swallowtail's genetic material by using its closely related, but less endangered European cousin,” explains Helden.  Using a genetically similar European swallowtail species that is kept at ARU, they will try to raise butterflies from cryopreserved eggs that were frozen in liquid nitrogen () at - 196°C. Their goal is to see how successfully they develop and reproduce compared with butterflies hatched from non-frozen eggs.

The team believes this is the first time someone has tried to use cryopreservation for butterfly conservation. If it works, the researchers hope to use the method with the British swallowtail, storing its frozen eggs in case they can be used in future breeding and reintroduction projects.“This project provides the opportunity to create impact on conservation, food production and biodiversity preservation for human and planetary health,” says Helden.

28. What does the underlined word“rearing” in paragraph 1 mean?

A. Removing.B. Observing.C. Sheltering.D. Producing.

29. What is the biggest threat to British swallowtails?

A. Fierce predators.B. Restricted habitat.

C. Genetic shortcomings.D. Environmental pollution.

30. Which of the following steps probably belongs to the project?

A. Creating new butterfly species in the lab.

B. Reproducing different butterflies’ genetic data.

C. Raising butterflies in extremely low temperature.

D. Examining frozen-egg development in related species.

31. What is the potential goal of this project?

A. To prevent climate change in the world.

B. To create a database of butterflies’ images.

C. To support ecological and agricultural needs.

D. To stop humans from impacting environment.

The American poet Robert Frost famously said,“No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader.” It takes courage to tell our real-life stories well, because we can only do it if we are willing to feel the feelings again in all their original intensity.

My agent's reaction to the first version of my novel, Drift, was that it felt curiouslyunaffected, given that it describes the heartbreaking loss of a child. I explained I had done that deliberately— the main character was numbing out her emotions. But in rewriting, I realized that in my real life the numbing was a coping mechanism that came later, and I had to allow myself to feel again the overwhelming grief, shock, and guilt of the moment to tell the story truthfully, making it morepowerful and authentic for the reader and of course, more challenging for my writing.

On the positive side, this doesn't only apply to difficult emotions. We might equally say no joy in the writer, no joy in the reader. When we write about positive experiences, to do it effectively, we need to feel those pleasurable emotions intensely too.

Writing with emotion is a sensory experience; we have to remember with our whole body. Emotions are called“feelings” because they are physical experiences. Describing the physical effects of emotion is part of show-and-don't-tell.“Amber was nervous about being late” tells us how she felt.“Amber's heart was racing; she was going to be late.”shows us. When we describe emotions through physical sensations, our reader will experience them in their own body.

So, be ready to dive back into the full power of the past when you tell your real-life stories. If you' re telling a joyful story, enjoy; if you' re telling a tearful one, let the tears fall. Then remind yourself you are not that younger person now————— however terrible your experiences have been, you have survived to tell the tale.

32. What does Robert Frost's words imply?

A. Writers' emotional honesty moves readers.

B. Readers' feelings completely vary with writers'.

C. Professional training ensures emotional expression.

D. Literary success depends mainly on plot complexity.

33. Why did the author rewrite her novel Drift?

A. Her agent demanded a new storyline.

B. The novel needed more commercial appeal.

C. The initial draft lacked detailed descriptions.

D. She failed to fully present her true emotions.

34. What does the author suggest about describing emotions in writing?

A. Using complex vocabulary.B. Showing body reactions.

C. Valuing positive experiences.D. Avoiding personal expressions.

35. What is the theme of the text?

A. Life reflection.B. Storytelling skills.

C. Emotional writing.D. Writing motivation.

第二节(5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5)

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

How to Handle Difficult People Without Losing Your Cool

You have spent hours on a project, only to have a coworker or superior criticize it for countless, non-existent flaws(瑕疵).  36   Your friend is ignoring you, and when you ask what the matter is, she replies," Nothing," and continues doing it anyway. People who are unreasonable or demanding——— in work, family, or friendship———— get on our nerves daily.

Dealing with difficult people requires thoughtful and consistent approaches.    37    Hypercritical colleagues may find fault with your report. It's natural to get cross when they do so, but try to keep your eye on the ball. Your brother comments repeatedly that you organize family events poorly. Instead of engaging in a tense back-and-forth, ignore it and focus on issues that matter more. A friend complains all the time about your being late. Try not to conflict with him head on.  38

Besides, empathy and humour can be powerful tools to minimize the friction. You don't have to accept their behaviour, but acknowledging their feelings can lower their defensiveness and make the conversation more constructive. Humour, when gentle and respectful, can lighten the mood and remove tension. However, don't let the joke go too far.  39   Avoid sarcasm(讥讽) which may make things worse.

40   Be clear about what you will and will not tolerate. If someone crosses the line, it's okay to step back. You don't have to engage in arguments or explain yourself endlessly.Instead, you can end the conversation on a friendly but firm note.

A. The first rule is to brush it off.

B. It's also important to set boundaries.

C. Above all, fight back if you get cross.

D. Instead, let it go so as not to sour the outing.

E. There's a fine line between humor and offense.

F. Your teacher reminds you mildly of the paper deadline.

G. Your mother is breathing down your neck about your schedule.

The doorbell rang for the third time this morning———a parcel again. I tore it open and saw a smooth plastic kitchen tool——I couldn't  41     buying it, or even needing it. I threw it onto the  42   counter, which was covered with half-unpacked boxes and random  43  .

My cupboards told the same story. Every time I reached for a plate, I'd knock over a bottle of  44 “miracle supplement” or a dusty back massager(按摩器)——— all talked into by online strangers who spoke so   45  , describing each item as a must-have, a life-changer I simply couldn't live without.  46   up in their enthusiasm, I'd hit the“pay” button without a second thought, only to forget all about them the moment the order was placed. Parcels  47  , and I was trapped in an endless cycle.

I thought back to my childhood, when saving weeks for a toy filled me with   48  . I'd daydream about it, and holding it at last felt like  49   real joy. But now the split second of pleasure when I clicked“pay” 50  instantly.

That night, I decided to quit——  51   shopping apps, unfollowing the influencers who fed my   52  , and blocking their links. I'd wait a week before buying what I desired. More often than not, the  53   disappeared.

The first days were tough. But months later my apartment is a   54   home. Looking back, those unopened packages were a wake-up call: 55   lies in less———— not more.

第二节(10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15)

阅读下面短文,在空白处填入 1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

I bet most of us have had matcha-flavored milk tea or ice cream at least once. While matcha is commonly associated with Japan's traditional tea ceremony Chanoyu, or Sado, its key whisking(搅打) technique,  56   origins can be traced back to China, where this ancient tea-making practice, known as diancha,  57  (enjoy) prosperity during the splendid Song Dynasty. At first, diancha was merely practiced by   58  (noble) and scholars, but it later broke through social class boundaries   59   was widely adopted by common people.

The process of diancha involves pouring hot water over powdered (粉末状的) tea, a bamboo brush 60  (beat) the mixture with the gradual addition of more hot water. This technique produces a fine foam(泡沫) on the tea's surface, which is a foundation for  61  (artistic) creative drawings. The foam is so stable that it allows for complicated designs on its surface,  62   practice known as chabaixi ——— a provincial-level cultural heritage in Fujian province.

Thanks to popular media and the enthusiasts   63    (dedicate) to preserving and promoting traditional Chinese tea culture, diancha has been brought to a   64   (wide)audience. In this fast-paced era, this ancient art breathes new life   65   our busy lives, offering a precious moment of peace in the chaos of modern life.

Twelve-year-old Leo and his friends——— Maya, Ben, and Ava——— had always treasured the neighborhood park. To them, it was more than a place to play; it was their creative world.Every weekend, they gathered there to draw, sing, dance, and film videos. But recently, everything changed. With new apartment buildings nearby bringing more residents, litter began piling up across the park.

“We can't just watch it get ruined,” Leo declared firmly. When he suggested weekend cleanups, the others jumped at the idea.“We should also get people to protect the park!” Ben added enthusiastically. Inspired, Ava and Maya painted the bold slogan“Save Our Park!” on white T-shirts while Leo and Ben created short promotional videos.

Early the next Saturday morning, the group headed to the park in their hand-painted T-shirts. They walked around picking up litter———— each piece felt like a small victory. Two hours later, they carried all the rubbish out.

“Now it's time to spread the word!” Leo announced at the main entrance. For the next hour, they showed their videos to park visitors and explained why protecting the park mattered but most people walked by without even glancing at them.“Maybe we should give up,” Ava said quietly, lowering her head.“No!” Maya replied firmly.“We just need to find a better way to reach people.” Leo's mind raced.“What if we organize a‘Happy Park Day’—with music and art—all focused on protecting the park?”

Fired up by the idea, they threw themselves into planning their event for the followingSaturday afternoon. Ben and Leo wrote a catchy rap about keeping the park clean and designed simple, energetic dance moves to go with it. Meanwhile, Ava and Maya made a large“Park Protection Pledge(承诺)” poster for visitors to sign. The group even convinced their parents and other adults in the community to help spread the news on social media.

The big day finally arrived.

To their delight, the event proved a great success.
