2025

Putting things off is something a lot of students are troubled with. Between schoolwork, after-school activities and everyday worries, there are too many things you have to deal with every day.    36     You might start falling behind and your grades might get lower.

One smart way to fight back is to break big tasks into tiny pieces. Huge projects can feel like a mountain. But if you cut them into smaller steps, it will make it less scary (可怕的).     37     Just tell yourself, “Today, I’ll choose my topic and write a little. I’ll take care of more tomorrow.” step by step, it gets done.

The “work and rest” way is also a smart choice for being productive. Set a timer for 25 minutes-go all in, full attention.    38     Have some cookies. Walk around. Once you get going, it’s easier to keep it up.

39     Put away your MP3 player and any kind of toys. Find a quiet place where you won’t get interrupted (打扰) at all. The less noise, the better your brain can lock in.

And don’t forget to treat yourself. For example, listen to your favorite song, or watch an interesting TV program. These little things keep you going.    40     Finally, you are sure to see the payoff.

AThen take a five-minute break.

BAlso, stay away from what pulls your   attention.

CFor example, you’ve got to write a   five-page paper.

DBut if you keep putting them off,   they can snowball.

EChange doesn’t happen overnight, so   stick to it every day.

Some of the jobs which were common fifty years ago are almost not seen now, and some that are popular today may disappear in twenty years.    32

Space tour guide

People have been expecting an exciting travel in space.    33     Anyone who wants to see the Sun rising and setting over the Earth will be able to take trips to space. And for a trip of this kind, travelers will need a tour guide—someone who can explain to them what they are seeing and help keep them safe.     34

AI psychologist (心理学家)

AI is used for more and more practical work. And machines will become more humanlike.    35     An AI psychologist would need to understand about both psychology and technology. It would be this person’s job to make sure that future supercomputers worked well.

Human-technology integration (融合) specialist

With all the new technologies on offer, people may need help to understand and use them. So human-technology integration specialists might be very important.    36     They would look at all the technologies a person could use and advise on the best ones and how to get the most out of them.

AIt will soon come true for many   people.

BThey will need engineers for their   “minds”.

CThey could teach others how to use   future technologies.

DSo have you ever wondered what   future jobs might be wanted?

EThe person who will do this job has   to be a good communicator.

Everyone has disagreements with friends or family members. While disagreements can be uncomfortable, there are some steps you can take to make conversations more productive

Listen to their opinions

Even if you don’t share someone’s opinions, you can still listen to what they have to say. Show that you’ re paying attention by listening carefully without interrupting (打断) them. Think about how their life experiences may be different from yours.     2    Simple questions about the topic can be a good choice.

Use proper language

When someone has an opinion you don’t agree with, it can be easy for you to dismiss (否定) it. Some people dismiss others’ opinions by arguing angrily, which is awful.     3     Start your sentence with “I” instead of “You”.

Stick to the facts

If you have a strong opinion, you can make a better case for it with facts instead of feelings. 4     Then relax your shoulders and say what you would like to say. If you get interrupted, politely remind the person that you are speaking and let them know that you would like to continue. Then give the person a chance to reply.

Find common ground

You may find that you can’t change the other person’s mind, and they may not change yours. 5     You may have a better understanding of each other’s opinion. In the end, it’s worth the effort because good communication builds strong relationships.

AStill, look for points you do agree on.

BStart by asking if you can share your opinion.

CYou should try speaking in a peaceful way.

DHere are the steps you can follow to achieve that.

EAnother way to show you’ re listening is by asking questions.

Why Some Trees Don’t Burn

When people think of wildfires, burning trees often come up. If you see a city burning while its trees remain standing, you might wonder if some-thing unusual is happening.

For weeks in January, large wildfires swept through Los Angeles. 1    As pictures of the fires spread across the internet, people noticed trees standing next to burned-out homes and cars. Some didn’t believe that a fire would leave trees untouched. “Is there a secret attack on L. A. homes?” they asked.

The simple answer is no. As plenty of pictures and videos from Los Angeles show, trees can and do catch fire. But it’s true that some did not burn. 2

It all comes down to moisture (湿度). “It’ s pretty obvious (易理解的) to me,” said Miranda Hart, a biology professor. “Trees are filled with thousands and thousands of liters of water.”     3    But if a tree full of water is next to something very dry, the dry thing will burn first and even change the course of the fire. “In that way, you can imagine the fire just going around the tree if there’s enough fuel on either side of it.” Prof. Hart added.

In addition, the tree type also matters. 4    Deciduous (每年落叶的) trees, for example, are less likely to burn. That’s because their leaves are moist and they contain less resin (树脂). Conifers (针叶树) like junipers, in comparison, are highly flammable.

In Los Angeles, palms are everywhere. 5    But some local fire departments have advised against planting more palms. Without proper care, these trees can become giant torches during wildfires and cause a lot of damage to people and objects nearby.

ATo be clear, trees do burn when fires are big and hot enough.

BTheyve become a symbol of the city.

CThey claimed (使丧失) many lives and   destroyed a large number of homes.

DCertain trees are more likely to catch fire.

EScientists say there is a simple explanation for that.

The humanoid robots ran on a 21.1-kilometer race along with human runners. This showed that robots can do real-life tasks, such as long-distance running.

The winner was Tiangong Ultra from the Beijing Humanoid Robot Center. 2    And its top speed was 12 km/h. This 1.8-meter-tall robot used light materials and cooling systems to stop it from getting too hot. Other teams, like Robot Whirlwind Kid and Robot Little Giant (a 75-centimeter-tall robot), had cool features too. Whirlwind Kid had shoes that could absorb shock (减震), and Little Giant used AI to keep balance on slopes (斜坡).

1. 并列连词:and,   also, too, as well(也);
   2.
顺序词:firstly, then, next, finally(首先 / 然后 / 最后);
   3.

1. 列举建议(如 “如何环保”  3 个方法,用   firstly/then 衔接);
   2.
描述过程(如 “制作蛋糕” 的步骤,用 next/finally 衔接);

   2.

    • 首段:提出主题(如 “校园活动的好处);
    • 中间段:分论点(如 “活动能锻炼能力”“活动能交朋友),每个分论点后常接 “解释 / 举例” 类句子(需还原的句子多为举例或补充解释);
    • 尾段:总结(如 “建议大家积极参加活动)。例:若空格在 “活动能锻炼能力” 后,还原的句子可能是 “比如参加演讲比赛能提升表达能力(举例说明)。
