M: Hey, Alice. Shall we go skating this Saturday afternoon?
W: Sorry, but I enjoy swimming. I’m really not interested in sports like skating or skiing.
W: Excuse me, sir. I’m looking for my hat. I think I left it here earlier. It’s white with a big flower on it.
M: Oh, yes. I remember seeing it on the ground near the apple tree.
W: Hi! Glad to meet you. I’m an exchange student from Mexico.
M: Cool. Could you help me practice my Spanish while you’re here in the United States?
W: Sure. It’s my pleasure.
W: You should have prepared your speech for the meeting, Sam.
M: Yes, I know. But how could I prepare with the meeting date fixed so soon?
W: Have you seen the latest news on the school website? The new plan looks great.
M: Yes, I like the idea of building a vegetable garden on the top of the teaching building. It’s a very meaningful project.
W: Have you heard about the two climbers, Nicholas Hojac and Philippe Brugger?
M: No, what’s up?
W: They climbed three big mountains in Switzerland — the Eiger, the Monch, and the Jungfrau. They were super fast. They did it in 15 hours and 30 minutes. The old record was 25 hours.
M: That’s amazing! The two men broke the record.
W: Yes. They started climbing at 1:00 a.m. They arrived at the top of the first mountain in six hours. They didn’t stop for long and kept moving fast. They’d thought that they’d need at least 19 hours, but they were much faster.
M: Good morning. What can I do for you?
W: Good morning. I am here to have a look at the truck you are selling.
M: Oh, hello, where did you see the advertisement? I put one on the Internet and one in the newspaper.
W: Actually, I was just driving by from my office and I saw the for sale sign on the truck in the yard.
M: That’s funny. I thought that sign would work the least out of the three postings. Let me just go to get my jacket and the key in the living room. I will be right out, but the truck is open if you want to look inside.
W: Please be seated, Mr. Pitt.
M: Thanks.
W: So could you tell me why you want to join us?
M: Well, your company is one of the best in this field nationwide.
W: That’s good to hear. So you work as a sales manager now, right?
M: Yes. Though the pay is good, the work is no longer challenging for me. I like challenges.
W: Then why do you think this position is suitable for you?
M: I love dealing with various people and I’m good at it. I know it won’t be easy for me at first, but I’m sure I will learn fast. As I’ve already said, I love challenges. So I don’t fear them.
W: Good. Do you have any questions about our company?
M: Not really. I’ve already read everything in your advertisement carefully.
W: OK. Now you’re free to go. I’ll discuss with my boss first. It’s Monday today. You’ll be informed of the result the day after tomorrow.
M: OK.
W: I’ve been thinking about going back to school, but I’m worried about how it will affect our family.
M: I understand why you’re worried, but this is a great chance for you to grow. We can manage things here. Our kids are growing up and I think it’s the perfect time for you to realize your dreams.
W: But the kids will need help with their homework.
M: You’re great at solving everything. We’re a team and we’ll work it out. Besides, the kids will be encouraged by your hard work. They’ll learn how important it is to keep learning and getting better.
W: But what if I can’t keep up with school?
M: Don’t worry. We all believe in you. I’ll help more with the housework and the kids can help too.
W: You’re right. I feel supported and relaxed. Thank you.
W: Last Christmas, I was invited to Canada by my aunt Judy. I had never been to other countries. I was so excited about the trip that I didn’t sleep well for several nights. On the day of leaving, my father thought that I might be caught in traffic if I took a bus to the airport, so he drove me there. But our car broke down on the way. As time went by, I began to worry about missing the flight. I decided to stop a car to take me to the airport. Many cars went past me at high speed before a white Bora stopped by my side. Thanks to the driver, I arrived at the airport just in time at 1:50 p.m. to catch my plane, which would leave ten minutes later.
It was my first flight and I was a bit nervous. When the plane was taking off, my ears felt funny. I was really sick. Luckily, it was all over after a while. On my window seat, I could enjoy the bird’s-eye view of beautiful cities, land, grass, forests and blue sea. Sometimes our plane flew right over the white clouds. Unluckily, I didn’t see any hills. Maybe I missed them. What a wonderful view!
