中考英语同义替换：alone, by oneself

一、“独自”可以怎样换着说？
alone可以表示“独自”，强调没有其他人陪同。by oneself也能表达这个意思，其中oneself要随人物变化：我用myself，她用herself，他们用themselves。

下面两句意思相同：
Lily went to the library alone. 莉莉独自去了图书馆。
Lily went to the library by herself. 莉莉独自去了图书馆。

但alone不等于lonely。alone说的是独处的情况，lonely说的是孤独的感受。 一个人待着，不一定觉得孤独。

二、by oneself还可能表示“没有其他人的帮助”
比较played alone与with friends watching：前者是独自玩游戏，后者是有朋友在旁观看。这里关注的是“有没有其他人在场”。

看下面这组句子：
Tom repaired the bike by himself. 汤姆独立修好了自行车。
Tom repaired the bike without anyone’s help. 汤姆没有任何人的帮助就修好了自行车。

这里by himself强调“靠自己完成”，可以用without anyone’s help解释。
没人帮助，不代表旁边没人。 朋友可能在场，只是没有帮忙。因此，不能把by oneself在所有句子里都理解为“独自一人”。
