M:I'm going to quit drinking coffee. I was shaking all morning from drinking too much. Now my head hurts too.
M: I had to stop because it would give me stomachaches.
W:There's a great movie showing at the cinema tonight. We really should go and see it.
M:Then let's do it. I need to relax after walking and driving all day.
M:Excuse me, have you got any books on engineering? I've looked everywhere, but I can't find any.
W:Books like that are on this shelf. Well, I'm afraid we're sold out.
M:How can you be crying? That is the most boring thing I've ever seen in my life.
W:It's the music, the feeling, and the love story. Not everyone has a heart of stone.
M:I can't get a phone signal out here. Can I borrow yours?
W:I don't have a signal either. There aren't any cell phone towers nearby. Just wait until we get back to the city.
M:Does ice cream come from Iceland?
W:No, silly. That's where ice comes from. Ice cream comes from different places, but they say the best one comes from Italy.
M:No, the best ice cream comes from the shop near my school.
W:What about the one we had when we went to America? It was as big as your head.
W:It was, but it gave me a stomachache.
W:I remember we had to go see the doctor.
M:Are we going to go back to America?
W:You'll need to ask your dad.
W:Can't wait to get a new passport. Look at this picture, I was only 10 when it was taken.
M:Well, the good news is it's only a five-year passport. You can get a new one next year.
W:I know, I just feel like it's time to actually use it. I have a great desire to see the world. Too many people settle down and have children before they have seen anything.
M:Not everyone is the same. My two daughters are always visiting somewhere new. But my son seems happy to stay at home with his wife and child.
W:Welcome back, everyone. I'd like to thank our guest John Adams for coming out tonight. So far, we've touched on many topics that your fans have been curious to hear about. Why don't we talk about your newest movie now?
M:It would be my pleasure. I play a college professor named Carl, who decides to go back to school to follow his dreams.
W:And what type of dream is that?
M:He decided to travel and go to a school of martial arts.
W:Interesting, so he was no longer happy being a professor. What happens then?
M:Well, I don't want to give away too much, but basically the point of the movie is to show people that it's not too late to change their lives. I was able to change a lot about myself by just participating in the film.
M:Mrs Jones, can I talk to you for a minute?
W:Sure, Greg.
M:My father and I are going away for a week, starting this Friday.
W:I see. Where are you going, if I may ask?
M:My mother's hometown. She is already there with my sick grandmother. She wants me to come visit her.
W:All right, well, we have a test next Monday, so you'll have to take yours on Thursday.
M:Sure, I was wondering about next week's project though. Since it is a group project, it would be unfair to the other students if I were away for that week. Do you think I could do something else instead?
W:Like what?
M:I was thinking I could write a report about the history of the town I am visiting.
W:That's not a bad idea. However, you won't be here next week to learn how to do it. Talk to me tomorrow. I might have a way we can work this out.
M:Great, thanks, Mrs Jones.
Thank you so much for being here today. I've been the head teacher here for the past 5 years. I know what you must be thinking, because it was the same thing I was thinking 7 years ago. When my wife and I decided to send our daughter here, this is a big change for everyone, and I want to share a few tips with you.
First, take a deep breath. No matter what happens, there will be many more decisions to make after four years here.
Second, make sure you communicate clearly with your children about how things are going.
Third, try to enjoy yourself a little bit.
Perhaps the most important part of this whole experience is the feelings about having one less person in the house.
If your kid is an only child, this may be a particularly big adjustment.
At last, remember to give your new boarding school students as much love and support as they can handle. After all, just because they're growing up doesn't mean they aren't still your babies.
