考点拓展1｜熟词生义

英语考试高频难点：同一个单词，课本学的是基础含义，阅读里常考陌生释义，一起来积累！

1. join

作动词，表示“参加；加入”，常用于短语 join in，表示“加入”。

例：Come on and join in the game! We need one more player.

快来加入游戏！我们还缺一个人。

【熟词生义】

join 作动词，还可以表示“连接；接合；联结”，常用于短语 join A to B 或 join A and B。

例1：Join the toy car part to the body. 把玩具汽车的零件装到车身上。

例2：The teacher asks us to join the words and phrases to make sentences.

老师让我们把单词和短语组合起来造句。

2. news

作名词，表示“消息；新闻”。

【熟词生义】

news 作名词，还可以表示“新闻人物”。

例：Pop stars are always news. 流行音乐明星总是新闻人物。

3. act

作动词，表示“扮演；行动”。作名词，表示“(戏剧等)一幕；行动”。

【熟词生义】

act 作动词，还可以表示“(对……)有作用，有影响”，后常跟介词 on。

例：Exercise acts on our bodies and makes us healthy.

运动作用于我们的身体，使我们健康。

4. nature

作名词，表示“自然界；大自然”，为不可数名词，前面不加定冠词the。

【熟词生义】

nature 作名词，还可以表示“本性；天性；性格”。

例：It’s not in his nature to be unkind. 他天生不会刻薄。

5. mind

作名词，表示“头脑；心思”，常用短语：open one’s mind（打开思路）；keep sth in mind（将……记在心中）。

【熟词生义】

(1) mind 作名词，还可以表示“聪明人；富有才智的人”。

例：Einstein was a great mind. 爱因斯坦是一位伟大的智者。

(2) mind 还可以作动词，表示“(请求允许或客气地请人做事)介意”。

例：Would you mind saying that again, please? 你介意再讲一遍吗？

6. collect

作动词，表示“收集；采集”。

【熟词生义】

collect 作动词，还可以表示“募捐；募集”，常用于短语 collect(sth) for sth。

例：We collect more than £300 for the hospital.

我们为这家医院募集了300多英镑。
