that部分是宾语从句
contrary to部分是形容词短语做状语，这里可以这样写：people are actually more stressed at home than at work, which is contrary to most surveys,
stressed adj. 有压力的；焦躁不安的
【逻辑梳理】所以，这项新的研究是说，人们在家里的压力更大，就是这项新的研究认为，人们在家里的压力大于在工作中的压力。那么，大多数的研究（contrary to most surveys）是怎么样的呢？是不是和这个新的研究相反啊，所以，大多数的研究是在家压力小，在工作中压力大，工作中的压力大于在家。这就是第一问的答案。

which部分是非限定性定语从句，修饰cortisol，即：这个东西是一种压力标记物，或者叫做指标。
while部分是时间状语从句，即：测试了他们在工作中，和在家时候的cortisol（皮质醇）。
and后面是另一个句子，省略了共同的主语researchers：
found it higher at what is supposed to be a place of refuge.
it指cortisol（皮质醇）
what部分是介词at的宾语从句。
be supposed to：应该...
refuge n. 避难所；港湾（就是家的意思，就是在家里面，人们的这个cortisol（皮质醇）更高，也就是压力更大）
what is supposed to be a place of refuge = home
总结：第一段是说，一个新研究发现人们在家里压力更大，这和之前大多数的研究相反。
