W: I learned skating from my friends, but I didn’t seem to improve. Should I take some classes?
M: Well, when I started skating, I found a website with many videos showing people the best way to learn. That’s what helped me. Maybe you can try that, too.
W: A birthday party will be held for Nancy tomorrow. Will you please join us?
M: I’d love to, but I’m going to see Mike off at the airport.
W: I’ve had a headache for the last few weeks. It’s been so bad lately that I’ve been off work since Monday.
M: I see. Let me give you an examination first.
M: Hey, Sue, any plans for the weekend? Want to see a movie with me?
W: I would love to, but I have a job interview on Monday, and I’m going to spend the weekend preparing for it.
W: Mrs Anderson’s lessons were a waste of time. She was always telling funny stories.
M: But she was actually covering what we should master.
M: Do you live in a nice neighborhood, Julia?
W: It’s nothing special, actually. But it’s convenient, and I like that.
M: What do you mean?
W: Well, I never need to cook because there are places to eat everywhere — some really good cafés and family-type restaurants. And they’re very cheap.
M: How about buying food and shopping?
W: There are no big supermarkets around where I live, just small stores. But they have nearly everything I need.
M: So you don’t plan to move?
W: Hmm, I don’t think so...
M: Good morning, can I help you?
W: Good morning, we’d like to book a holiday for July, please.
M: Certainly. Where did you have in mind?
W: Well, we haven’t thought a lot about it, really. We’d just like to go somewhere hot, you know, and it must be in July.
M: I see. Well, let’s get the dates clear first, then we can see whether we can go there. What part of July were you thinking of?
W: Ah, well, you see, we have slightly different holidays. I’ve got the whole month except for the last four days, so I could go from the first to the twenty-seventh. But my friend here doesn’t start until the seventh, so I suppose we’ll have to find a time that works for both of us.
M: Hi, Jenny, is it true you’re moving to London?
W: Yes, it is.
M: What made you decide to do that?
W: Work, mainly. I’m sure I’ll be able to find a good job there.
M: You’re probably right. But where are you going to live?
W: I hope I’ll find a flat to share with somebody. That way it will be cheaper.
M: Yes, that’s a good idea. Are you taking your dog with you?
W: No, I don’t think so. My parents have offered to take care of him, and I don’t think he’d be happy in the city.
M: But aren’t you afraid of moving to such a big place, especially after living in a small village?
W: Not really. I think I’ll enjoy myself. There’s so much to do there. I don’t expect I will miss the countryside much and I can always come back and visit my parents.
M: Well, I just hope you’ll invite me to stay when you get settled!
W: Of course I will.
W: Congratulations, Mr Yang! I heard that you did a lot of sports. Are you a professional marathoner?
M: No, I’m more of a dedicated hobbyist when it comes to sports.
W: How hard do you have to train in marathon?
M: I do it for about two hours every day except Saturday.
W: How many sports do you do?
M: Quite a few, like jogging, swimming, cycling, boxing, soccer and some others.
W: Why do you like swimming?
M: Because it’s good for the back and it’s fun.
W: And cycling? What’s cycling good for?
M: The legs. I like it because it’s not expensive and I think it’s relaxing.
W: You also do boxing.
M: Yes, that’s right. Boxing is good for many things, and very good for breathing. It’s also very relaxing.
W: And soccer?
M: Yes, I like soccer as a team sport. It’s fun, fast and sometimes is very exciting.
M: Good afternoon, everyone, Star Books UK is the largest bookstore of health, medicine, education and human life sciences. Many of you must have bought books from it. Now here’s a piece of good news from Star Books for you. It has published a new English dictionary recently to help young students study English. The newly-published English dictionary covers all the words and phrases secondary school students need to know. It also provides clear meanings of the words together with helpful explanations and examples. And it has decided to hold a half-price sale from Monday, March 7th through Friday March 11th here. And I’m sorry to say that it can’t be bought in bookstores at this price, because I’m a direct seller of this company. If you want to buy one, you can either tell your teachers or buy one directly in front of the main teaching building.
