In an increasingly complex society, people require a wide range of abilities to manage work, relationships and daily decisions effectively. Some argue that mathematical skills are more valuable in real life than communication skills because numbers are involved in many practical choices. I completely disagree with this view, as communication skills play a more fundamental role in personal, professional and social success.
To begin with, communication is essential because most real-life problems involve other people rather than abstract calculations. Even when an individual possesses strong logical or numerical ability, that knowledge has limited value if it cannot be expressed clearly, negotiated persuasively or adapted to different audiences. Daily life requires people to explain needs, understand others’ intentions, resolve misunderstandings and build trust. These processes depend not merely on accuracy, but on tone, empathy, clarity and responsiveness. Therefore, communication skills are more broadly applicable because they allow people to transform private thoughts into effective social action.
Moreover, communication skills are especially important in the workplace, where achievement is rarely the result of individual technical competence alone. Modern organisations depend on collaboration, leadership and the ability to coordinate people with different responsibilities. A person who can present ideas convincingly, listen carefully and manage disagreement constructively is more likely to influence decisions and maintain productive relationships. By contrast, mathematical competence may improve the quality of certain analyses, but it does not automatically enable people to gain support or implement solutions. In this sense, communication is often the mechanism through which professional value is recognised and realised.
Admittedly, mathematical skills remain useful in real life because they support rational decision-making, financial awareness and the interpretation of information. Without basic numeracy, individuals may struggle to assess risks, compare options or detect misleading claims. However, this does not mean mathematics is more important overall. Its usefulness is often situation-specific, whereas communication is required across almost every human interaction. Even mathematical reasoning frequently needs to be communicated before it can produce practical benefits.
In conclusion, while mathematical skills are undoubtedly valuable, communication skills have a wider and deeper impact on everyday life. A person who communicates effectively is better equipped not only to solve problems, but also to connect with others and participate meaningfully in society.

Six and Two Threes
“Six and Two Threes”,是选择困难症解药! It’s six and two threes!”(随便选一个呗!

“Six and Two Threes”
“Taking the bus or the subway? Honestly, it’s six and two threes at this hour — both will be packed!”
“Which phone should I buy, this one or that? The specs look like six and two threes to me.”
同款表达:美式英语更爱说 “six of one, half a dozen of the other”

It makes no difference.(没什么区别)例:We can eat now or later — it makes no difference.
Much of a muchness.(英式口语,指非常相似)例:These two phones are much of a muchness.
Two sides of the same coin.(同一事物的两面)侧重本质相同,但表现形式不同
“Don’t ask me to dance, I’ve got two left feet!”(千万别让我跳舞,我笨手笨脚!)
“She’s been on cloud nine ever since she got the job offer.”(自从拿到offer,她简直乐疯了。)
“My room is at sixes and sevens after the party last night.”(昨晚派对后,我房间乱成一锅粥。)
“He went the whole nine yards for her birthday — surprise trip, fancy dinner, the lot!”(他为她生日豁出去了 — 惊喜旅行、豪华晚餐,全套安排!)
