①But don’t bother trying to kill off old habits; once those ruts of procedure are worn into the brain, they’re there to stay. ②Instead, the new habits we deliberately press into ourselves create parallel pathways that can bypass those old roads.但是，不要费心去消灭旧习惯；一旦这些老套的程序（旧习惯）进入大脑，它们就会留在那里。相反，我们故意（有意）强加（塞给）给自己的新习惯创造了平行的路径（新习惯），可以绕过那些旧的路径（旧习惯）。

这里是两个句子，用分号连接：
① don’t bother trying to kill off old habits; 这个叫做：“祈使句”，动词原形开头
bother doing sth：费心做某事
② once those rutsof procedure are worn into the brain, they’re there to stay.
这里的once引导时间状语从句，表示：“一旦”
rut是个猜词题，这里指的就是 “old habit”，当然，文章给的不是这个，下一句才说。
procedure n. 程序；手续

deliberate adj. 故意的；有意的；从容的。—— deliberately adv. 故意；从容地
press sth into/onto sth：将...塞进；把...按进/入...。这里用的比较形象，就是新习惯是我们塞给自己的
pathway n. 路径；道路，就是第二段说的 “that can jump our trains of thought onto new, innovative tracks.” tracks，都加 “s” 了。
而且nut这个词，题目给的正确答案就是track
that部分是定语从句，修饰pathway。
bypass vt. 绕过；避开
those road指的就是上一句说的those ruts。
【逻辑梳理】这里的 old habits = those ruts = those roads，这是旧的习惯。而innovative tracks = parallel pathways，这是通过培养获得新习惯（或者叫做创新，就是在脑子里形成新的东西）
总结：第四段是说，我们其实没有必要急于把旧习惯改掉（kill），而是，要努力形成新的习惯，这样，新习惯自然会绕开旧习惯（old roads = those ruts = old habits）。
