Passage 2:The Triune Brain(三重脑理论)
The triune brain model divides the human brain into three main regions, each with distinct functions.
A. Reptilian Cortex(爬行动物脑)
This is the oldest part, located at the brain’s base. It controls basic survival instincts: breathing, heart rate, digestion and reflexes. It operates automatically, without conscious thought.
B. Limbic Cortex(边缘脑)
Found above the reptilian cortex, this region handles emotions, memories and social behaviour. It processes feelings like joy, fear and anger, and stores emotional memories. It also regulates bonding and attachment.
C. Neocortex(新皮层)
The largest and most recent part, covering the brain’s surface. It is responsible for logical thinking, language, problem-solving and planning. It enables humans to reason, learn complex skills and create art.
