Conformity means behaving in ways that match what others in a group expect. It can influence how people dress, speak, or make choices. Some researchers believe conformity keeps society peaceful and organized. Others argue that it limits personal expression and original thinking. Think about your own experiences, what you’ve seen in school, media, or daily life. Do you believe conformity is mostly helpful or mostly harmful to individuals and society? Explain your opinion clearly.

Paul

I believe conformity helps maintain social harmony. When individuals conform to societal norms, it should reduce conflict and foster cooperation. This in turn leads to a more stable and cohesive community. I see this in my neighborhood, where everyone helps each other out.

Claire

I think conformity suppresses individuality. By always trying to fit in with the group, people may avoid expressing their own perspectives. This seems to happen in social media quite often, where posts often just sound like repetitions or echoes of others.

范文

In my view, while conformity has its drawbacks, its overall impact on individuals and society is more beneficial than harmful.

On one hand, conformity plays a crucial role in maintaining social order and stability by promoting shared norms and values, which reduce conflicts and enhance cooperation among community members. This is particularly evident during emergencies when collective action is required for the common good.

On the other hand, there are indeed negative effects, such as the suppression of individual creativity and critical thinking, leading to potential issues like groupthink. However, these challenges can be mitigated by fostering an environment where independent thought is encouraged alongside respect for societal norms.

Thus, finding a balance between conforming to social expectations and expressing individuality is key to building a harmonious and dynamic society.

In organizational behavior, leadership style strongly shapes employee motivation, decision-making, and long-term performance. Two commonly discussed approaches are authoritarian leadership, which emphasizes control and top-down decisions, and collaborative leadership, which values participation and shared responsibility. Do you believe company leaders should favor authoritarian leadership or collaborative leadership? Why or why not?

Paul

I prefer collaborative leadership because it encourages employees to share ideas and feel valued. When team members participate in decisions, they are usually more motivated and creative. For example, in group projects, collaboration often leads to better solutions because different perspectives are considered.

Kelly

I lean toward authoritarian leadership, especially in large organizations or crisis situations. Clear authority allows leaders to make quick decisions without confusion. For instance, in emergencies, employees often need direct instructions, and strong control can improve efficiency and reduce mistakes.

范文

I advocate for collaborative leadership because it fosters a culture of trust and open communication within teams, encouraging knowledge sharing and innovative thinking.

By involving employees in the decision-making process, leaders can tap into a wider range of perspectives and expertise, leading to more informed and creative solutions. This approach not only enhances job satisfaction and loyalty but also builds a resilient organization capable of adapting to diverse challenges.

While authoritarian leadership may offer quicker decision-making during crises, the long-term benefits of collaboration —such as increased employee engagement and a supportive work environment—make it a superior choice for sustainable organizational success.

In my experience, even in high-pressure situations, a collaborative approach can lead to better outcomes by leveraging the collective intelligence of the team.

Today, I'd like to discuss how universities should prepare students for an ever-changing job market. Some people believe that university curricula should be flexible and quickly adapt to market shifts to ensure students learn relevant, practical skills.

Others argue that curricula should remain stable and consistent, giving students a broad general education that prepares them for any career path. Considering both viewpoints, do you think schools should frequently adjust their courses in response to changes in the job market? Why or why not?

Paul

I don't think schools should change their curricula too often. A stable curriculum benefits students more in the long run. The job market changes too quickly, and if schools keep adjusting their courses, they may actually undermine the systematic nature of education. Students should instead focus on gaining broad knowledge across different fields, earning essential certifications, and building foundational abilities during college. They can always specialize later.

Kelly

I believe universities need to be more flexible. Society is evolving at a rapid pace, and schools cannot afford to stay the same. Colleges need to establish a teaching system that can respond to market demands in a timely manner. This would help students acquire the skills that employers actually need and better adapt to the future work environment.

范文

I believe universities should strike a balance by moderately adjusting their curricula in response to the job market while maintaining a solid foundation of broad education.

This approach combines the benefits of stability and flexibility, ensuring students gain comprehensive knowledge while acquiring relevant skills for future employment. By fostering an attitude of continuous learning, institutions prepare students to adapt throughout their careers.

Offering elective courses and internship opportunities can further enhance this balance, allowing students to personalize their education according to their interests and career aspirations.

In this way, universities not only equip students with immediate practical skills but also lay a groundwork for lifelong learning and professional growth.
