全真模拟测试阅读理解B篇

My team from UNSW Australia defeated team B-Human from Germany 3-1 last week to claim back-to-back Robocup SPL World Championships. Here's how we did it.

The competition involved fully autonomous robots, without remote control, competing against each other in 5-on-5 soccer. Each team used the same robots, so the competition was focused on software and artificial intelligence (AI) development, not on hardware construction.

The final was a nail-biting match locked at 1-1 with less than three minutes remaining. Both teams had strong strategies and well-tested code; but in the end, our speed proved too fast for the Germans to keep up with.

Our strategy for winning was focused on exploiting our fast walking speed. Our robots could accelerate much faster than most teams, with a top speed of 1 kilometer per hour, which in robot soccer was really quick!

When the ball was in our half of the field, we didn't bother trying to pass it to a teammate. We just tried to move it up the other end of the field. The idea was that we would kick the ball deep into their half of the field, and then used our fast walking speed to reach the ball before our opponents had time to clear it away.

This led to us playing most of the game in our opponent's half of the field, where it was hard for them to score goals, but easier for us to score.

At last, with a goal scored in the final minute of the game, our robots were victorious. Our hard work in doing the coding for our team had paid off.

However, we now have a huge target on our back. All the other teams will be closely watching our progress and focusing on their strategies to beat us next year. We will spend the next 12 months continuing to innovate and ensure that we bring an even better team to the competition next year. Hopefully next time our robots will be faster than ever.

25. What does the underlined word "nail-biting"in paragraph 3 probably mean?

A. Disappointing and frustrating.

B. Intense and suspenseful.

C. Boring and uneventful.

D. Smooth and effortless.

26. What was the author's team's winning strategy?

A. Clearing the ball away.

B. Passing the ball to their teammates.

C. Sending the ball to the opponent's half.

D. Defending their own half of the field.

27. What is the last paragraph mainly about?

A. The team's future prospects and challenges ahead.

B. The team's strategies for the next competition.

全真模拟测试阅读理解D篇

Cooler, higher places may not be very welcoming to some hummingbirds trying to escape rising temperatures and other effects of climate change.

Anna's hummingbirds live no higher than about 2,600 meters above sea level. If the birds attempt to expand their range to include higher altitudes, they may struggle to fly well in the thinner air, researchers reported in the Journal of Experimental Biology.

These hummingbirds have expanded their range in the past. Once only found in Southern California, the birds now live as far north as Vancouver, said Austin Spence, an ecologist at the University of California, Davis. That expansion is probably due to climate change and people using feeders to attract hummingbirds, he said.

Spence and colleagues collected 26 Anna's hummingbirds from different elevations(海拔) in the birds' natural range in California. The team transported the birds to a bird shelter about 1,200 meters above sea level and measured their metabolic(新陈代谢的) rate when hovering (盘旋). After relocating the hummingbirds to a field station at an altitude of 3,800 meters, the researchers let the birds rest for at least 12 hours and then measured that rate again.

The rate was 37 percent lower, on average, at the higher elevation than at the aviary, even though the birds should have been working harder to fly in the thinner air. At higher altitudes, hovering, which takes a lot of energy compared with other forms of flight, is more challenging and requires even more energy. The decrease in metabolic rate shows that the birds' hovering performance was suffering, Spence said. "Low oxygen and low air pressure may be holding them back as they try to move upslope."

Additional work is needed to see whether the birds might be able to better adjust if given weeks or months to get used to the conditions at gradually higher altitudes.

32. What factor may have contributed to the expansion of Anna's hummingbirds' range?

A. A shift in migration patterns.

B. A lack of food sources.

C. A decrease in temperature.

D. The use of feeders by people.

33.How did scientists study the effects of high altitude on hummingbirds?

A. By monitoring their feeding behaviors.

B. By comparing their different forms of flight.

C. By measuring their metabolic rate while hovering.

D. By observing their adaptability to a new environment.

34. Which best describes Anna's hummingbirds' hovering performance at higher altitudes?

A. Weakened.

B. Enhanced.

C. Unaffected.

D.Dynamic.

35.What further research might be conducted about Anna's hummingbirds

according to the passage?

A. Studying the changes in their hunting methods.

B. Recording their numbers over an extended period.

C. Examining their ability to adapt to higher altitudes.

D. Investigating how other bird species affect their range.
