【必背佳作】

[A]Breakfast

Breakfast is very important to us, so we should have it every day. What do you usually eat for breakfast? Here’s what Jack said.

I’m Jack. I’m from the United States. In my family we have very different foods for breakfast. My father usually eats a lot of noodles and a few vegetables. He drinks a lot of coffee every day. He thinks it can give him a lot of energy. My mother just has a few cookies and a little milk. She eats little because she thinks it can help her keep fit. As for me, I usually have some chicken sandwiches, but I have few vegetables and I drink little milk.

[A]Today many teenagers are overweight. Because most teenagers love food with a lot of fat, oil, salt and sugar. People often call this kind of food “junk food”. In a survey at one school, scientists find that over two-thirds of the students don’t have breakfast before they go to school. During the day, they don’t have meals regularly. Most of them don’t like vegetables or fruit. They like eating food with lots of salt, sugar or fat better.

Some doctors also give the following advice on eating habits:

1.Don’t eat junk food very often. Too much salt and sugar is bad for your health.

2.Eat some fruit and vegetables every day. They are rich in vitamins.

3.Drink a glass of milk every morning and night. Milk helps bones grow.

4.Eat breakfast every day. This is good for body and mind.

5.Have meals regularly.

[B] When I was a teenage girl, my mother always made sure I ate very healthily, and fresh fruit and vegetables were a very important part of our diet. We lived near the sea and we had fish about four times a week. I didn’t often get ill. One winter, almost all my classmates got flu, but I didn’t. I thought I didn’t get these things because I took a lot of exercise.

But twenty years ago, something terrible happened to me. On May 4, 1998, I went hiking by myself in the mountains. When I was taking a nap under a tree, my leg was caught by a big rock falling from the mountain. When I freed myself, I noticed that my legs were bleeding. It was so painful that I couldn’t move. I didn’t know what to do but stayed there until I was saved by other hikers. They sent me to a hospital but it was too late. I lost so much blood that I couldn’t keep my leg.

Now I’m forty years old. I am married and have two children. I like to watch my 11-year-old son play soccer. From my wheelchair, I cheer as he runs and kicks the ball. My daughter likes to play the piano. I will never play the piano, but I know a lot about music. I enjoy encouraging my daughter.

People often ask what I have learnt as a disabled person. “Everyone faces problems. If you only focus on your problems, you’ll have a life full of them. I don’t need any pity. I think about all the good things in my life. I have a life full of good things.”

[D] The Importance of Having a Healthy Mind

In the past, humans only paid attention to the importance of people’s physical health. But in today’s world, having a healthy mind is just as important.

There is a strong connection between body and mind. On the one hand, when people are in physical pain, it may get in the way of work and family life. For example, students may not be able to do well at school or do the activities they enjoy, which can make them stressed and less confident. On the other hand, problems with your mind can cause physical problems to become worse. If people feel too stressed, they may have trouble sleeping.

A healthy mind has a great influence on different people’s life. For teenagers, without a healthy mind, they will find normal activities like going to school or taking part in school activities increasingly difficult. Therefore, they may have trouble getting along with classmates. As for adults, studies have found that people in poor mental condition may make twice less money. As they are unable to work in certain environment and are more likely to leave their jobs.

People’s mental condition can also influence their life expectancy(寿命). A study found that people with even mild(轻微的) mental health problems can probably lose up to four years of life. It also discovered that serious mental problems may increase people’s risk of death(related to hear disease) to nearly 90%.

By now you should understand that taking care of your mind and your body not only means living longer, but also better.

[E] Dear Tony,

I’m sorry to hear that you have some health problems and need some help. Health is the key to living a productive and satisfying life. As a teenager, there are some things you should pay special attention to.

Healthy eating is an important part of your growth and development. You’d better eat 3 healthy meals a day. Make sure you eat enough fruits and vegetables.. It’s best for you to eat less junk food and fast food.

Besides healthy eating, you should exercise regularly, at least three times a week. That can improve your health. The most important thing is that you keep moving! It can be in gym class, joining a sports team, or working out on your own. I encourage you to try to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity each time.
