题目:

Some people believe that air travel should be restricted as it causes serious pollution and will use up the world’s fuel resources. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

01

  • pollution and fuel resources:

环境破坏environmental damage:航空燃油排放二氧化碳和氮氧化物,加剧温室效应;

经济引擎economic engine:航空是全球贸易和旅游业的支柱,强制限制航空会导致经济衰退;

Introduction

Body Paragraph 1

(Logic Chain):

Body Paragraph 2

(Logic Chain):

Body Paragraph 3

(Refutation):

(Short-sightedness)

Conclusion

The rapid expansion of the aviation industry has sparked a heated debate regarding its environmental toll and heavy reliance on fossil fuels. While some advocate for mandatory restrictions on air travel to curb pollution and resource depletion, I partially disagree with this view. In my opinion, the negative consequences of such restrictions would outweigh the benefits, and the focus should instead be shifted toward technological innovation.

First and foremost, air travel serves as the central nervous system of the global economy. Aviation is the lifeblood of international commerce and the tourism industry, supporting millions of jobs and driving the GDP of many nations. High-value, time-sensitive goods—ranging from life-saving medical supplies to essential electronic components—rely almost exclusively on the speed of air transport. Imposing rigid restrictions would not only trigger a global economic recession but also sever vital supply chains, causing disruptions that far exceed the immediate environmental gains.

Furthermore, aviation fulfills indispensable social and humanitarian functions that no other mode of transport can replicate. It provides a crucial lifeline for international disaster relief, allowing aid to reach remote or devastated areas within hours. Moreover, in an increasingly globalized world, air travel is the primary physical link for cultural exchange and international cooperation. Restricting flights would effectively isolate nations, making long-distance travel a luxury for the elite and hindering the collective global effort needed to address shared challenges.

Admittedly, the environmental concerns raised by critics are grounded in reality. Jet engines release substantial greenhouse gases at high altitudes, where they have a compounded warming effect, and the industry's reliance on finite fossil fuels is indeed a threat to sustainability. However, simply "flying less" is a short-sighted stopgap that fails to address the root of the problem. Instead of mandatory restrictions, the focus should be on transitioning to "green" aviation. By incentivizing the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and electric-powered engines, we can decouple industry growth from environmental damage.

In conclusion, while the pollution and resource consumption associated with aviation are undeniable, a policy of restriction is a regressive approach. It would cripple the global economy and undermine social connectivity without offering a long-term environmental solution. Therefore, governments should prioritize investment in sustainable technology, ensuring that we can maintain our global connections without compromising the health of our planet.
