In late August, I opened an e-mail from my favorite author,Jon Acuff,which read September was the right time to develop a new habit.His e-mail included an attached calendar for the month. He encouraged readers to print one out,choose a new habit and then color in a square for each day they followed through on their intentions.
It sounded like a great idea to me. I thought about the habits I'd like to adopt in my own life---walking five miles every day; drinking a gallon(加仑)of water daily;spending an hour each day organizing areas of my home I usually ignore; writing 2,000 words every day and doing something special for a family member each day.Thinking these habits were important, I didn't choose but printed out five calendars.
Early on September Ist,I filled my bottle with water and set off on my five-mile walk. About a mile in, I rushed back home to use the bathroom. I'd planned to go back out to finish my walk, but my son,Nathan, was up earlier than usual and needed my help with his learning.Two hours later, when his e-learning was eventually done, I went upstairs to work on reorganizing my closet(衣柜).I cleaned for two hours but didn't get as much done as I would've liked.At 2:00 pm, I sat down at the computer and worked on a story.I'd written only 500 words when I realized it was time to drive Nathan to his tennis practice.
An hour later, I was back home and started preparing dinner.At 7:00 pm,I was finally able to color in the first of my calendar squares for the day.After dinner,I returned to the computer and wrote another 500 words.Then it was time to read to Nathan before bed. As I read to him, I realized I was tired.But because I'm stubborn(固执的),I choked down the rest of the water,and I felt terible.My husband saw and asked,"Honey,what's wrong with you?"
