Artificial intelligence has become an inseparable part of modern education, reshaping how students learn and teachers teach in countless ways. As a powerful technological tool, AI is undoubtedly a double-edged sword, bringing unprecedented convenience and progress to education while hiding potential risks that we cannot overlook.
On one hand, AI injects new vitality into education. It provides personalized learning paths for students according to their learning speed and weaknesses, making learning more targeted and efficient. For teachers, AI can handle repetitive work like homework grading and data sorting, freeing up more time for them to focus on interacting with students and designing teaching plans. Besides, AI-based online courses break geographical limits, allowing students in remote areas to access high-quality educational resources easily.
On the other hand, overusing AI in education causes obvious problems. Students may rely too much on AI for answers and solutions, losing the ability to think independently and solve problems on their own, which harms their creativity and critical thinking. What’s more, the massive collection of students’ learning data by AI systems also raises serious concerns about personal privacy and information security.
In short, AI is neither a panacea nor a disaster for education.
