Wood vaulting （储存） is a new and simple idea to help slow down climate （气候）change. It means collecting dead trees and wood pieces, and burying them in the ground. This stops the wood from releasing （释放）carbon dioxide (CO2) in to the air. Scientists say this method could take away up to 12 billion tons of CO2 every year, which would help the Earth stay cooler.
The idea comes from how wood can last a long time in nature. For example, researchers found a 3,775-year-old cedar log （雪松） in Canada. Even after thousands of years underground, the log still kept almost all its carbon. This shows th if wood is buried in soil with little air, it won't release carbon out even after thousands of years.
Some companies, like Carbon Lockdown, are already trying wood vaulting. They bury trees killed by fire in deep holes and make sure little air can reach them. They also check the buried wood to make sure it does not produce harmful gases like CH4. This keeps the carbon safely stored.
Wood vaulting is the solution to climate change as well as a useful one. It can work together with other ways, like using less non-renewable energy and protecting forests. By doing this, wood vaulting can help lower the amount of CO2 in the air and slow down global warming.
