What is the main idea of the passage?

The passage is mainly about ______.

What is the best title for the passage?

The writer wants to tell us ______.

The main idea of the second paragraph is ______.

Question: What is the main idea of the passage?

A. Hospitals need the most volunteers.

B. Volunteering has many benefits.

C. It's hard to find time to volunteer.

B

There are several steps to planting a tree correctly. First, dig a hole that is twice as wide as the tree's root ball and just as deep. Then, carefully place the tree in the hole, making sure it's straight. After that, fill the hole with soil and press it down gently. Finally, water the tree thoroughly. Following these steps will give your tree the best chance to grow strong and healthy.

Question: The passage is mainly about ____.

A. why trees are important

B. the best time to plant a tree

C. how to plant a tree properly

D. different types of trees

C

Many people think that all bats are blind, but this is not true. While most bats use a special skill called "echolocation" to navigate and find food in the dark, they can also see. In fact, some bats that are active during the day have very good eyesight. The myth of the "blind bat" is simply a misunderstanding of how these amazing animals live.

Question: What is the best title for the passage?

A. The Discovery of Echolocation

B. The Truth About Bat's Eyes

C. How Bats Find Food

D. Different Kinds of Bats

A

答案:B

解析:文章首句 "Volunteering is a great way to..."

B

答案:C

解析:文章首句 "There are several steps to planting a tree correctly." 随后用 "First, Then, After that, Finally" 等词详细介绍了步骤。

      According to the passage, when/where/who/what/why/how...?

All of the following are true EXCEPT ______.

Which of the following is (NOT) mentioned?

Passage 1

The school library will have new opening hours starting next Monday. It will open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. On weekends, it will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students can borrow up to five books at a time for two weeks.

Question: According to the passage, when does the library close on Wednesday?

A. At 4:00 p.m.

B. At 5:00 p.m.

C. At 6:00 p.m.

D. At 8:00 p.m.

Passage 2

Tom's favorite subject is science because he loves doing experiments. Last week, his class did an experiment with plants. They put one plant in the sunlight and another in a dark closet. They watered both plants every day. After a week, the plant in the sunlight was green and healthy, but the plant in the closet turned yellow and weak.

Question: All of the following are true about the experiment EXCEPT ____.

A. they used two plants

B. the plants were watered daily

C. the plant in the closet grew better

D. Tom likes science

Passage 3

Anna is going to London for vacation. She will fly there on July 10th and return on July 20th. She plans to visit the British Museum, see a play at the Globe Theatre, and take a ride on the London Eye. She is most excited about visiting the Tower of London.

Question: What is Anna most excited about?

A. Flying to London.

B. Seeing a play.

C. Visiting the Tower of London.

D. Riding the London Eye.

Passage 1

根据关键词 "close on Wednesday" 定位到 "It will open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday."

Passage 2

C选项与原文 "...the plant in the closet turned yellow and weak" 相矛盾,因此是答案。

Passage 3

答案:C

解析:根据关键词 "most excited about" 定位到文章最后一句 "She is most excited about visiting the Tower of London."

We can infer from the passage that ______.

The writer suggests that ______.

What is the author's attitude towards...?

The passage is probably taken from ______ (a newspaper, a novel, an ad, etc.).

What will probably happen next?

Passage 1

Mr. Smith looked at his watch for the third time in five minutes. He walked quickly to the window and looked out at the empty street. "Where is she?" he thought. "The bus is never so late."

Question: How did Mr. Smith probably feel?

A. Relaxed.

B. Worried.

C. Excited.

D. Bored.

Passage 2

The city council is considering building a new shopping mall in the town center. Supporters say it will create jobs and bring more business to the area. However, many residents are against the idea. They worry that it will increase traffic problems and destroy the character of our old town.

Question: The passage suggests that the plan to build a shopping mall is ____.

A. cheap and easy

B. widely supported by all

C. controversial (有争议的)

D. already finished

Passage 3

When Maria finished her story, everyone in the classroom was silent for a moment. Then, Mr. Johnson started clapping, and soon the whole class joined in. Maria's face turned red, but she smiled and gave a small bow.

Question: What can we infer from the passage?

A. Maria's story was not interesting.

B. Maria is probably a shy person.

C. The class did not like Maria's story.

D. Mr. Johnson was angry with Maria.

Passage 1

但通过他的动作 "looked at his watch for the third time", "walked quickly", 以及他的想法 "Where is she?" 和 "The bus is never this late",我们可以推断出他非常焦急和担心。

Passage 2

和 "However, many residents are against..."。

Passage 3

从 "Maria's face turned red, but she smiled and gave a small bow" 可以推断,她对大家的赞扬感到不好意思,有点害羞。

What is the author's opinion about...?

How does the writer feel about...?

The author's attitude towards... is ______.

如:positive(积极的), negative(消极的), optimistic(乐观的), pessimistic(悲观的), supportive(支持的), critical(批评的), objective(客观的), subjective(主观的)等。

Passage1

Many people believe that homework is essential for students to practice what they learn in school. However, I think we are giving too much homework to children. After sitting in classes for over six hours, they come home only to spend several more hours on homework. This leaves them with little time for sports, hobbies, or simply resting. It's no wonder that many students feel stressed and tired. Learning is important, but so is a happy and balanced childhood.

Question: What is the author's attitude towards homework?

A. He/She believes it is very important and useful.

B. He/She feels that current homework levels are excessive and harmful.

C. He/She is unsure about the role of homework.

D. He/She thinks homework should be banned completely.

Passage2

Social media allows us to connect with friends and family worldwide. It's amazing to see photos and updates from people we care about. Yet, we must be cautious. It is easy to spend hours scrolling through posts, which can be a huge waste of time. Also, people often only post the best moments of their lives, making others feel that their own lives are not good enough. Therefore, while social media is a powerful tool, we must use it wisely and not let it control our lives.

Question: How does the author feel about social media?

A. Completely supportive and enthusiastic.

B. Negative and believes it should be avoided.

C. Appreciative of its benefits but aware of its risks.

D. Indifferent and doesn't care about it.

Passage3

Some argue that zoos are cruel and that animals should live freely in the wild. While this is an ideal thought, the reality is different. Modern zoos are not like the small cages of the past. They provide safe habitats for animals, many of which are endangered or injured and could not survive in the wild. Zoos also play a key role in education and research, helping people understand and protect wildlife. So, are zoos perfect? Maybe not. But for now, they are a necessary and mostly positive force for conservation.

Question: What is the author's opinion about modern zoos?

A. They are completely cruel and should be closed.

B. They are perfect and have no problems.

C. They have some shortcomings but are generally beneficial and needed.

D. They are only useful for entertaining people.

I think we are giving too much homework"。后续内容如 "little time for sports...", "feel stressed and tired" 都强调了作业过多带来的负面影响。

开头先肯定了社交媒体的好处 ("amazing"),然后用 "Yet" 转折,指出了其风险,如 "waste of time" 和 "make others feel... not good enough"。最后一句 "while... is a powerful tool, we must use it wisely" 清晰地表明作者既看到其优点,也看到其缺点,主张理性使用。

So, are zoos perfect? Maybe not. But for now, they are a necessary and mostly positive force..."

The word "..." in Paragraph 3 probably means ______.

The underlined word "..." refers to ______.

What does "..." stand for in the passage?

定义法:“... that is to say...", "which means...", 破折号、括号等。

举例法:“such as", "for example", "like" 后面的内容。

同义法:“or", "that is", "in other words" 前后可能是同义词。

反义法:“but", "however", "on the contrary", "unlike" 前后可能是反义词。

Passage 1

答案:C

解析:下文 "She always looks for items on sale and never wastes food or money" 是对 "thrifty" 的直接解释,即 "精打细算,不浪费"

Passage 2

答案:B

解析:根据下文 "we could see our breath", "had to wear thick coats... to stay warm" 这些线索,可以推断出天气非常寒冷。

Passage 3

答案:A
